Thiago Emiliano da Silva (born 22 September 1984) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for Chelsea in the Premier League and captains the Brazilian national team. Known for his defensive prowess, discipline, and leadership, he is considered one of the greatest defenders of all time. After beginning his senior club career at RS Futebol in 2002, Silva moved to Juventude where he played defensively; in 2004, at the age of 19, he signed with Porto and moved on loan to Dynamo Moscow, where he contracted tuberculosis and was nearly killed.
