Haris Seferovic, born February 22, 1992, is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a striker for Benfica in the Primeira Liga and for the Swiss national team. In April 2009, Seferovic made his professional debut with Grasshopper.

Shortly after, in January 2010, he was recruited by Fiorentina, an Italian team. Much of his time with the latter club was spent on loan, beginning with a successful stint at Novara in Serie B, followed by a move to Real Sociedad in Spain in 2013. A year later, he joined German club Eintracht Frankfurt, where he stayed for three seasons until joining Benfica in Portugal. Life of Haris Seferovic

On February 22, 1992, Haris Seferovic was born. He is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a striker for Benfica in the Primeira Liga and for the Swiss national team.

Early Career

Seferovic began his career with FC Sursee’s junior squad in 1999 and signed for Luzern in the summer of 2004 after five years. He was scouted by Grasshopper after three years in their minor teams, and he made his debut in the Swiss Super League on April 26, 2009, against Neuchâtel Xamax. In January 2010, he was named the canton of Lucerne’s Youth Player of the Year.

Fiorentina

Fiorentina of the Italian Serie A bought Seferovic from Grasshopper for a cost of €2.1 million on January 29, 2010. La Viola announced the completion of the transaction one day later. The teenager joined Fiorentina’s primavera squad. Seferovic was loaned to Neuchâtel Xamax of the Swiss Super League on August 4, 2011.

During the January transfer window, Seferovic was loaned to Serie A club Lecce on January 27, 2012. He played the second part of the 2012–13 season with Novara in Serie B, where he scored 10 goals in 18 starts. On 17 April, he scored a hat-trick in a 3–1 win over Livorno as Novara finished in the play-offs.

Real Sociedad

Seferovic signed a four-year contract with Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad for €2 million on July 11, 2013. On August 16, 2013, he made his La Liga debut, scoring with a chip against Getafe to secure a 2–0 home victory.

Four days later, he scored a volley as Real Sociedad defeated Lyon 2–0 away from home in the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League play-off round. In his debut season, he appeared in 24 league matches, just nine as a starter, and scored his only other league goal as a replacement for Carlos Vela on November 2nd, capping a 5–0 triumph against Osasuna. On December 18, he scored Sociedad’s third goal in a 4–0 win over third-tier Algeciras in the Copa del Rey round of 32.

Seferovic joined Real Sociedad to play alongside Vela and Antoine Griezmann in the attacking line. He had a strained connection with the fans after posing with a liquor bottle following a draw with FC Barcelona in September and ordering his team’s fans to keep quiet in November 2013.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Haris Seferovic signed a three-year contract with German Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt on August 1, 2014. “We purposely picked a young player who already has a pretty high level of experience, but who still has lots of space for progress,” the team added.

On August 16, he made his debut, netting the first goal in the ninth minute as Frankfurt defeated fourth-tier Viktoria Berlin 2–0 away in the DFB-Pokal first round. One week later, he made his Bundesliga debut, scoring the game’s lone goal on Frankfurt’s opening assault to beat SC Freiburg at the Waldstadion. 2017-2019

Haris Seferovic signed a five-year contract with Portuguese champions Benfica on June 2, 2017. He made his debut in the 2017 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira on August 5, starting alongside Jonas and scored the second goal in a 3–1 win over Vitória de Guimares. Four days later, he made his Primeira Liga debut, scoring three goals in a 3–1 home triumph over Braga.

2019-present

Internationally, he scored again, this time in a 2–1 win over Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 on 14 February, assisting Benfica to their first win in Turkey. With this goal, his 17th of the season, he briefly became the world’s top scorer across all leagues in 2019, with a 10-goal tally. With 23 league goals, he became the second Swiss player (after Alexander Frei) to be the leading goalscorer in a foreign league.

Due to the domination of the Brazilian Carlos Vincius in 2019–20, Seferovic’s starts and goals declined. The next year, with the Brazilian loaned to Tottenham Hotspur, Seferovic returned to the starting lineup and scored 22 goals, one less than Sporting’s leading scorer Pedro Gonçalves.

Seferovic was hindered by chronic muscle problems during the season in 2021–22, missing 13 games between January and March.

Early Career

Haris Seferovic won the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria with the Swiss under-17 national team and was the tournament’s best scorer. He scored five goals at the tournament, including the game-winning goal against hosts Nigeria.
