Early Life

Mateschitz, who is of Austro-Slovenian origin, was born on May 20, 1944, in Sankt Marein im Mürztal, Styria, Austria. His parents are from Styria, both of them. The extended family of his father hails from the Maribor region of Lower Styria, despite the fact that his father was born in Gross Gerau, Germany (today in Slovenia). Professional Career

Unilever was Mateschitz’s first employment, and he worked there promoting detergents. Later, he relocated to Blendax, a German cosmetics business that Procter & Gamble has since acquired, where he worked on the marketing of Blendax toothpaste, among other things.

He first encountered Krating Daeng, the beverage that would later become Red Bull, while on the road for Blendax. He co-founded Red Bull GmbH in 1984 with Chaleo Yoovidhya, and in 1987 the company debuted in Austria. He then succeeded in making the Red Bull beverage the market leader for energy beverages globally.

Along with Heinz Kinigadner, he co-founded the Wings for Life charity, which promotes spinal cord research. To raise money, the charity started hosting the Wings for Life World Run in 2014.
