Vagit Alekperov Biography, Age, Assets, Houses, Career

Early life

Harold Hamm was born to sharecroppers in Lexington, Oklahoma, in the late 1945s as the youngest of 13 kids. The Battle of the Bulge claimed the life of Hamm’s older brother. “He had enrolled quite early in the war, so he had seen the most of the combat before being slain pretty much at the end, according to Hamm.

He had two children—one of whom he had never met—and was married. For my family at the time, I’m sure it was difficult.” When Hamm joined them, there were still nine kids residing at home. In addition to sharecropping, Hamm’s father worked as a lay priest and a part-time construction worker.

The Hamm family maintained a vegetable garden, cared for their cattle, and farmed. In actuality, Hamm’s earliest recollection was of picking tomatoes in the warm, crimson earth of Oklahoma. According to Hamm, “my father was reared in difficult circumstances.” “When he was still a little child, his father abandoned the family.

My father only completed the third grade, but he made the best of the situation. He was a kind, devout, and diligent man who was most well-known for his charity. My father always found someone who was in a worse situation than we were, so we never got anything extra. Usually, we always had someone staying with us while they worked on getting back on their feet.”

Hamm remembers his mother as being quite vivacious. “She put a lot of effort into her work, and she took delight in keeping us all clean, dressed, and educated, the man said. Our family’s flame came from her.” Hamm remembers clearly when one of the farmhouses they were residing in caught fire and burnt to the ground when the Hamm family was relocating from one tenant farm to another.

The community graciously donated household items to the family to help them replace all they had lost when they moved into a rental in the city. According to Hamm, “We really came out of that transaction better than we’d been before.” We had never had anything new before, yet some individuals handed us brand-new items.

The Hamms moved to a farm, but there was no running water there. Daily life was difficult, but the family stuck together. As opposed to what people might anticipate for such a huge family, Hamm recalls a well-organized living. When Hamm was 18 years old and his mother passed away from pancreatic cancer, the family suffered its greatest loss.

When a life is lost, you “don’t understand the value of a life,” according to Hamm. “My parents instilled morality in us, encouraging us to take pride in who we were. We all developed into great, responsible adults. We had and still have a tight family. I just went to a family reunion with my sister, brother, and 160 other family members.

Every one of the 13 members of our immediate family who were present represented us.  Hamm can scarcely recall a period of time without employment. He used to gather eggs, milk cows, and slop hogs as a kid. Every autumn, he laboured in the cotton fields with his family. Until the last cotton crop was harvested, which was the first snowfall or Christmas, whichever came first, he recalls, “we couldn’t go to school.” We frequently fell behind in school.

However, it did not make Hamm less eager to study. Hamm relocated to Enid, Oklahoma when he was 16 years old. It made an impact on him since it was a unique period in the history of northwest Oklahoma. He saw the growth of the oil and gas industry in the region and was fascinated by the guys driving it, particularly by their kindness.

As stated by Hamm, “I observed the generosity of oil sector executives, which is one of the reasons I initially became interested in oil and gas.” “The enormous oil and gas fortune that Frank and Jane Phillips accumulated was completely donated.

The list of oilmen and women who donated their fortune to improving their communities and the globe goes on and on, including Waite Phillips, Sam Noble, the Skellys, and many others. The majority of oil workers I have ever met in Oklahoma match that description.

Harold Hamm Personal Life

Judith Ann was Hamm’s first wife, and together they had three kids. They split up in 1987. Hamm wed Sue Ann Arnall in April 1988; the couple had two kids. Sue Ann has held leadership positions at Continental Resources and is a lawyer and economist. On May 19, 2012, she filed for divorce; however, Hamm claimed that they had split up in 2005.

According to some media reports, Hamm’s wife might receive up to half of his alleged $20 billion wealth, setting a new record for the largest divorce settlement. Although a judge decided that his ex-wife would get $1 billion, she rejected the agreement and demanded more money.

CNBC reports that Arnall deposited a settlement cheque for US$974,790,317.77 in 2015, which is equal to $1,114,378,430.1 in 2021. In addition to owning properties in Enid and Nichols Hills, both in Oklahoma, Hamm resides in Oklahoma City.

Harold Hamm Education

Hamm fared well in school and loved it, but he had no intention of attending college due to financial constraints. At the age of 18, he had a small family, was married, and was employed by a nearby oilfield services provider. “After high school, my only aspiration was to become an oilman so that I could support my family and give back to my community.

I was not given the chance to attend college I have no links to the oil sector in my family or anywhere else. I didn’t know anything. My entrance point and chance to learn was the oilfield services industry. Yes, I started by cleaning the tanks at the bottom. There are no harder challenges than that.”

Harold Hamm Family

Hamm’s first wife, Judith Ann, gave birth to three children with him. They divorced in 1987. Sue Ann Arnall and Hamm were married in April 1988, and they have two children. Sue Ann is a lawyer and economist who has held executive roles at Continental Resources.

She filed for divorce on May 19, 2012, although Hamm said that they had broken up in 2005. A new record for the highest divorce settlement may be established with Hamm’s wife receiving up to half of his claimed $20 billion fortune, according to certain media sources.

Involvement In Politics

Hamm gave $985,000 to the pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future not long after being designated the Republican candidate’s energy advisor in March 2012. Hamm asserted in January 2016 that Saudi Arabia was trying in vain to “flood the crude market at a time of surplus.”

Hamm lambasted the Obama administration’s energy policy during the 2016 Republican National Convention, saying that President Obama was “burdening oil corporations with new restrictions” in order to drive up gasoline costs.

Hamm also criticised the Department of State’s 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, claiming that it would provide Iran more freedom to sell oil and advance nuclear weapons. Donald Trump, a Republican running for president in 2016, thought about selecting Hamm as secretary of energy.

Involvement In Education

Hamm holds honorary degrees from the University of Oklahoma and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Hamm, who has type 2 diabetes, is the inspiration for the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma. Hamm is a member of the Offutt School of Business at Concordia College, Moorhead’s Global Leadership Council. The Hamm School of Engineering and the “Continental Resources | Monsignor James Shea Chair of Engineering” will be endowed at the private, Catholic University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, thanks to a $12 million gift announced on February 1, 2022, by the Harold Hamm Foundation and Continental Resources.

It is thought to be the greatest charitable donation ever made to education in the western North Dakota and eastern Montana area, which is where the Bakken formation is located.

Harold Hamm Net Worth

His net worth as of 2023 is $22.4 Billion. According to financial records, Continental Resources, an oil and gas producer that pumped more than 320,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2021, generated the majority of Hamm’s wealth. Continental Resources is a publicly listed company

According to the corporate website, Continental is the largest lessee and the leading oil producer in the North Dakota and Montana Bakken oil area. According to SEC filings made between February 2022 and June 2022, Hamm owns more than 80% of the company both personally and through family members.

According to these documents, Harold Hamm Family LLC transferred shares via a dividend and dissolution agreement to its members, including Hamm’s children. In this research, shares owned by family members are ascribed to Hamm to reflect his roles as the founder and chairman.

According to details in the Oklahoma divorce decision from November 2014, Hamm and his wife split more than $1 billion in cash and other assets, including agricultural machinery. The judgement included accounts with J.P. Morgan and Charles Schwab as well as $224 million in liquid assets held by Hamm, totalling nearly $420 million.

Hamm remembers his mother as being quite vivacious. “She put a lot of effort into her work, and she took delight in keeping us all clean, dressed, and educated, the man said. Our family’s flame came from her.” According to a filing on July 1, 2016, Hamm sold more than 180 million Continental shares to the Harold Hamm Family LLC for $19.39 per in September 2015.

Hamm sold his stake in Hiland Partners, an oil and gas pipeline business he formed, to Kinder Morgan in February 2015 for around $1.24 billion. At the time, Hamm owned 61.77 per cent of Hiland Partners.

His cash investments are valued based on an examination of these gains and losses, taxes, market performance, charity giving, and insider trades. Hamm told Bloomberg News that full control would remain in his hands following the transfer of Continental shares in February 2022, therefore nothing would change in that sense.

Hamm remembers clearly when one of the farmhouses they were residing in caught fire and burnt to the ground when the Hamm family was relocating from one tenant farm to another.

The community graciously donated household items to the family to help them replace all they had lost when they moved into a rental in the city.
