Bob Dylan is a musician, novelist, and visual artist from the United States. Dylan has been a prominent influence in popular culture for almost 60 years and is widely acknowledged as one of the finest composers of all time. Dylan has won ten Grammy Awards and was awarded Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016. Bob Dylan’s works have been recognized in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Bob Dylan was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a Musician in 1988.

Bob Dylan was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on 24th May 1941. He was raised in Hibbing, Minnesota near the Mesabi Range of Lake Superior.

Abram Zimmerman, Dylan’s father, and Beatrice Stone, Dylan’s mother, were both members of a tiny, close-knit Jewish community. Following the Jewish extermination, his grandparents moved to the United States.

They stayed in Duluth until Dylan was six years old, before moving back to Dylan’s mother’s hometown of Hibbing, where his dad and paternal uncles managed a furniture & appliance company.

He grew up listening to the radio, initially to blues & country channels from Shreveport, Louisiana, and then to rock & roll while he was a teen.

While studying Hibbing High School, Dylan created various bands. He sang Little Richard & Elvis Presley versions with the Golden Chords.

Dylan went to Minneapolis in September 1959 and joined the University of Minnesota. Dylan began performing at the Ten O’Clock Scholar, a café a few streets from university and got active in the Dinkytown traditional music scene while living at the Jewish-centric society Sigma Alpha Mu home.

During this time, he started referring to himself as Bob Dylan.  Dylan left college at the conclusion of his freshman year in May 1960. He moved to New York City in 1961 to sing and take a chance in music.

Bob Dylan has had a number of meaningful partnerships. Suze Rotolo, an artist and the child of American Communist Party militants, was his first relationship. He thereafter became engaged with singer-songwriter Joan Baez, with whom he performed frequently.

Dylan wedded Sara Lownds in 1965. He adopted Lownds’s child with a former spouse, and they also have four children together. In 1977, they separated. Dylan wedded Carolyn Dennis, his backing vocalist, in 1986. Before separating in 1992, the couple had one child together.
