Gerard Wertheimer Biography, Age, Height, Houses, Cars

Early Life

Jacques Wertheimer and Eliane Fischer, who were Jewish, gave birth to Alain Wertheimer on September 28, 1949, in Paris, France. Three years later, his younger brother Gerard was born. Ernest Wertheimer, Alain Wertheimer’s great-grandfather, was born in 1852 and passed away in 1927. He identified as a Jew and had roots in Germany during the Middle Ages.

He turned French after being Gallicized and bought a home on Avenue de Neuilly, close to Bois de Boulogne.  Jacques Wertheimer, Alain’s father, successfully carried on and ran his father Pierre’s firm.

Jacques Wertheimer, who was born in 1911 and passed away in 1996, focused on the thoroughbred operations of horse racing, becoming the owner of one of the most prosperous stables in France. He married the successful architect’s daughter Eliane Fischer in 1947. However, they quickly divorced in 1952 after having two boys, Alain and Gerard.

Alain Wertheimer Personal Life

Alain, who has multiple homes and rich assets, was reared in an affluent family and is renowned for leading an opulent lifestyle. He interacts openly with the media and takes part in a number of charitable activities.

In addition to Napa Valley, California, Alain and his brother also own vineyards in France. Additionally, both brothers run a significant Thoroughbred horse racing stable known in France as the Wertheimer et Frère partnership and in the United States as La Presle Farm for racing.

Alain Wertheimer Controversies

There was fresh speculation that the Wertheimer family, who own Chanel, may try to sell the business or go public after the passing of Karl Lagerfeld in February of last year. LVMH managers reportedly stated that Chanel had a value closer to 100 billion euros during the Investor Day in Paris rather than the 50 billion euros predicted by certain analysts.

Chanel, one of the most well-known French luxury houses in the world, continues to project a mystique, which unquestionably increases its attraction. Chanel is not owned by LVMH or Kering, the two greatest high-end and fashion conglomerates in the world and the owners of the leading companies in this sector.

Chanel distanced itself from Kate Moss after photographs of her alleged drug binge stirred up debate. The respected French wineries Rauzan-Segla in Margaux and Chateau Canon in Saint-Emilion are owned by the Wertheimer brothers as well.

Alain Wertheimer Education

Alain finished his education in local French schools using the English language. Alain is a very thoughtful and intelligent boy. Alain finished his education at a local French school. and finished his studies at the University of Paris.

Professional Career

The chairman of Chanel is Alain Wertheimer. Together with his brother Gerard, who runs the business’ watch section from his home in Geneva, he co-owns the business. Alain Wertheimer oversees the company the most because he is the older of the two brothers.

After their father, Jacques Wertheimer, passed away in 1996, they received the luxury brand company Chanel, which was co-founded by their grandfather Pierre Wertheimer. Before assuming ownership of Chanel in 1974, Alain Wertheimer had served as an intern at Mot & Chandon. It is the time that he began to make money and lately amassed a net worth of $14.6 billion.

He overhauled the line’s sales after No. 5 de Chanel fell out of style in both fashion and fragrance by cutting the number of stores from 18,000 to 6,000. He took the perfume off the pharmacy shelf. In addition, Alain Wertheimer oversaw the purchase of a number of non-Chanel trademarks, including Eres Lingerie and Beachwear, Tanner Krolle Saddles and Leather Goods, and British Gunsmith Holland & Holland.

The Wertheimer brothers are based in France and are the owners of acclaimed French vineyards like Rauzan-Segla in Margaux, France, and Chateau Canon in Saint-Emilion. In the late 1980s, Alain Wertheimer relocated his business to New York, mirroring Chanel’s focus on the American market.

Although the early 1990s global recession impacted sales of luxury products, by the middle of the decade, demand had begun to pick up, and Chanel had continued to grow both its boutique network and product line. Additionally, make a donation to La Fondacion Fas, a non-profit organization established in Geneva dedicated to helping those suffering from alcoholism as soon as possible.

They also avoid using their names in advertisements, rarely show up for Chanel shop openings, and refuse to license the brand name for aerosols and bedsheets. In one of his few interviews, Alain stated to Wine Spectator, “You can make money that way. But that’s not how a family business should be operated”.

Alain Wertheimer also serves as President of the Pierre J Wertheimer Foundation, a New York-based non-profit private foundation named after Wertheimer’s late grandfather, but it is unclear if he participates in the activities of the organization. Alain Wertheimer is more cynical of the two brothers. He is steeped in money but doesn’t hesitate to use his Metrocard to get around Manhattan. Similarly, he shuns the charity ball and Park Avenue dinner circuit.

Strategic Vision

Chanel constantly adheres to two criteria to set itself apart from other fashion businesses in the capital market: never offering discounts and never selling on social media.  The House is renowned for its straightforward yet elegant, traditional, and contemporary style that combines items from the past with its powerful brand identification, such as tweed, and delicate touches, such as knotted bows and chains.

The brand’s motto, “Fashion can fade, but style forever,” is reinforced by this. Customers may recognize Chanel items even without seeing the emblem since they always have a consistent style, spirit, and quality. Chanel does not design its products in accordance with the newest trends. Chanel first, never lowers prices.

Chanel merely modifies prices in accordance with the market and does not alter the base price, unlike other high-end fashion labels like Prada, Versace, Valentino, or Burberry which all run seasonal discount campaigns to draw customers. This is how Chanel stands out in the luxury market. In order to meet the needs of middle-class consumers and expand to regions like Asia, Chanel created more affordable ranges.

With 36 outlets in Japan, 15 in Korea, and 11 in China, Chanel nearly completely controls the market thanks to cheap ranges of cosmetics like lip balm, skincare, and makeup as well as accessories like eyeglasses and watches. Second, Chanel is not very active on social media.

The corporation has invested over a billion euros in online advertising campaigns and international expansion in recent years. Chanel, however, does not view online commerce as a sales channel, particularly for upscale clothing, accessories, jewellery, cosmetics, and watches. Alain claims that Chanel wishes to maintain the value of the brand while minimizing the phenomenon of fake and counterfeit goods.

Recent Updates

Leena Nair, a former executive at Unilever, was announced as Chanel’s next global CEO on Tuesday. She will be located in London. Alain Wertheimer, the French billionaire who owns Chanel with his brother Gerard Wertheimer, will take on the position of worldwide executive chairman, the company announced in a statement.

Ms Nair worked for the multinational consumer products corporation for 30 years, most recently serving as the executive committee member and head of human resources. Chanel, famous for its quilted purses, No. 5 perfume, and tweed suits, announced that Ms Nair will join the company in January and added that the new hires would guarantee its “long-term prosperity as a private company.”

Art Collection

Co-owner of the House of Chanel Alain Wertheimer has extended this same commitment to confidentiality to his own art collection. He never consents to the loaning or taking of photographs of his collection, which includes pieces by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Henri Rousseau.

Little is known about Wertheimer’s holdings or his collecting preferences, despite the fact that it is known that these pieces of art are dispersed around several residences, the Chanel executive offices, and Alain is a customer of the famed Julius Lowy Frame and Restoring Company.

Privacy is a way of life for the brothers, who apparently drive themselves to Chanel runway shows in a cheap french hatchback and sit in the third or fourth row. They hardly ever show up for Chanel boutique openings, and they never endorse anything. If not his business or his art, what else will Wertheimer discuss? “I spoke to the Wine Spectator because public relations and selling wine go hand in hand.

In a rare interview with the Times, he said, “I will be happy to talk to you about the wine and the horses. “But I don’t give interviews on Chanel because it is not useful for the Chanel business.” as of December 2019 to Forbes.
