Born in Khouribga, Morocco, his family relocated to Italy while he was young. At the age of seven, he enrolled in the Bologna youth academy. He made his club debut on October 12, 2014, when Bologna defeated Latin 2-1 in a Serie B match. He played 28 times for Bologna during the 2014–15 Serie B season, which saw the team finish fourth in the standings and gain promotion to Serie A the following year. Due to his exceptional play, the defender was named Serie B Footballer of the Year.
The left-back made 33 appearances for the Rossoblu during the 2015–16 Serie A season, scoring his first Serie A goal in stoppage time against Capri. Bologna ended fourteenth in the standings as the team comfortably escaped relegation to continue in Serie A.
