Style Of Play

An energetic, diligent, reliable, and adaptable defender, Lichtsteiner had played all along the right side and had also been used as a winger in a 3-5-2 system or as an offensive full-back or wing-back in a four-man backline. Even though he tended to play on the right, he occasionally played on the left wing or even as a temporary centre-back.

He was noted for his aggressive dashes up and down the wing, which allowed him to exploit holes and get on the end of long balls, enabling him to assist out at both ends of the pitch and cover the right flank efficiently. He was a speedy, physically powerful, tenacious, and tactically astute player.
