Puneet Issar is a well-known Indian actor and director. He is best known for playing the role of Duryodhana in the TV series Mahabharat, and directing Garv: Pride and Honour starring Salman Khan. His other notable roles are in Border, and as the second lead in the cult Indian horror film Purana Mandir.
Puneet Issar was born in a Brahmin family on 6 November 1959 in Amritsar, Punjab. He is the son of the film director, Sudesh Issar. Not much is known about his mother. Puneet is married to Deepali, daughter of Punjabi actor, Diljit Puri and Bengali singer, Ashita Puri. The couple is blessed with a son, Siddhant Issar, and a daughter, Nivriti Issar.

Puneet Issar completed his schooling at Mumbai’s St. Lawrence High School. He went to Mithibai College to pursue his graduation. After completing his graduation, Issar did a course in acting from Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India.

Puneet began his career as an acting professor in the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. After struggling in the industry for a long time, he bagged the role of ‘Bob’ in the Bollywood film Coolie in 1983. Then, Puneet Issar portrayed the role of Duryodhana in the epic TV series Mahabharat from 1988 to 1990, directed by B. R. Chopra and Ravi Chopra. It was this performance that gained him mainstream fame. Issar along with other actors of the epic TV show often toured the whole of India and even abroad to perform live shows based on the epic throughout the ’90s.
Puneet Issar portrayed the role of the Indian Superman, a Bollywood version of the Hollywood films. Later he did several other horror films such as Tehkhana in the 1980s. Issar also acted in films including Partner, Krrish, Aryan, Bachna Ae Haseeno, and many more in the 2000s.
