Medhi Benatia Biography, Age, Salary, Stats, FIFA 22, Net Worth & Wiki

Former professional football player Medhi Benatia was a center-back. Benatia, who is well known for his stints in France, Italy, and Germany, played for Morocco on the international stage, making 66 appearances and, most famously, leading them to their first World Cup in 20 years.

Before joining Clermont in 2008, Benatia started his career at Marseille and later spent time on loan at Tours and Lorient. He joined Udinese two years later and played there for three seasons before moving on to Roma. In his lone season with them, he helped them finish as runners-up in Serie A. He was then signed by Bayern Munich for €26 million, winning the Bundesliga in both of his seasons. He came to Juventus in 2016, originally on loan, and the team eventually signed him permanently in 2017.

Benatia, who was born and bred in France, first competed for his native country at the under-18 level. When he was 20 years old, he decided to play for his father’s country of Morocco, making his senior international debut in 2008. At four competitions for the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Benatia represented Morocco. With 66 caps under his belt, Benatia declared his retirement from international football in 2019.

Borussia Dortmund

2014 saw Benatia represent Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich said on August 27, 2014, that they have paid €26 million to sign Benatia to a five-year contract. Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, who were rumored to be interested in signing him, were defeated by Bayern Munich.

He acknowledged that he was sorry to leave Roma but was informed that he had to depart since the team needed the money. James Pallotta, the president of the Roma, was incensed upon hearing this and retaliated by claiming that he had been bought for being a “poisonous liar.”

Benatia made his official debut for Bayern on September 17, 2014, in a 1-0 home victory over Manchester City in the first game of the 2014–15 UEFA Champions League season. He played for 85 minutes and completed 93% of his passes. He was dismissed in the 20th minute of the rematch at Manchester City for obstructing Sergio Agüero’s clear opportunity to score; Agüero converted the ensuing penalty, and City went on to win 3-2.

On December 13, Benatia scored his first goal for Bayern, starting the scoring with a header in a 4-0 victory at FC Augsburg; this moved his team 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

Benatia’s first Champions League goal came on May 12 against Barcelona in Bayern’s Champions League semi-final second leg; despite Bayern winning 3-2, Barcelona advanced to the final 5-3 on aggregate.

He began the 2015–16 campaign with the German Super Cup, which Bayern ultimately lost on penalties following a 1–1 tie against VfL Wolfsburg. He headed Xabi Alonso’s free kick on August 14 to score the opening goal of the new Bundesliga campaign in a 5-0 drubbing of Hamburger SV.

Juventus

Juventus, the reigning Italian champions, acquired Benatia on 15 July 2016 for €3 million on a season-long loan with the option to purchase at the conclusion of the season for an additional €17 million. On August 27, he made his club debut against Lazio in a 1-0 away Serie A victory.

In a 2-1 victory over AC Milan in Serie A on March 10, 2017, at the Juventus Stadium, Benatia scored his first goal for Juventus. Juventus used the option to sign Benatia until 2020 on a long-term contract on May 12.

Benatia left a television channel RAI Due interview in May 2017 after hearing racial slurs directed at him in the earpiece. The business issued an apology.

Juventus was leading Real Madrid 3-0 on the road in the Champions League quarterfinals on April 11, 2018, a score that would have forced extra time had Juventus won the first leg at home. After Benatia fouled Lucas Vázquez in the area in the 93rd minute of injury time, referee Michael Oliver gave Real Madrid a penalty, which Cristiano Ronaldo converted for a 4-3 overall loss.

Oliver’s decision, according to Benatia, made him “more and more upset by the world of football,” he stated after the game. At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 9, he scored twice as Juventus defeated Milan 4-0 in the 2018 Coppa Italia Final.

In order to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, they defeated Algeria 4-0 at the Stade de Marrakech on June 4, 2011, when he scored his first goal for them.

Benatia led Morocco during the whole 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon, when they were defeated 1-0 by Egypt in the quarterfinals. “I think it’s unjust to come and play for the national team when I lack competitive football and take the place of someone who is in a better situation,” he said in March of that year when he announced his decision to leave the team until he was a regular for Juventus.

He scored on November 11 in a 2-0 victory over the Ivory Coast to help the Atlas Lions earn their first World Cup berth in 20 years. The “most wonderful moment of my career,” he said. Benatia competed in both the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations before he announced his retirement from international competition in October 2019.
