Club Career

Petrojet

He was signed by Egyptian Premier League team Petrojet for the remainder of the 2009–2010 season after an outstanding first half of the season with an Egyptian Second Division team[clarification needed]. He made his debut on 13 May 2010 against El Gaish.

His strong 2010–11 campaign, which included four goals, won him a position on Hany Ramzy’s Egypt U–23 teams, which was vying for a spot in 2011 All–Africa Games and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He scored two goals in the 2011–12 Egyptian Premier League, which was never completed because of the catastrophe at Port Said Stadium.

Early in June 2012, Mohsen’s Petrojet coach made the following statements to the media: “He will transfer to Europe and the board is examining bids from a number of important teams.” Mohsen is one of the finest forwards in Egypt, and his place is in the major European leagues, the coach added. As he was successful with the Egypt U-23 squad building up to the 2012 Summer Olympics, interest from Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly and Zamalek as well as European teams increased tremendously.

Mohsen attracted interest from Egyptian, Gulf, and European teams after exhibiting exceptional performance in the 2012 Toulon Tournament and playing well in the 2012 Summer Olympics, concluding with an outstanding goal-scoring record (21 goals in 31 matches).

He requested a move away from the squad towards the end of August, ideally outside of Egypt, in order to “solidify his status in Egypt’s first team.” Unfortunately, Mohsen contracted virus C in September, rendering him incapacitated for two to three months. After missing two months, he made his comeback in late October during a friendly match against El Gouna. He contributed to Petrojet’s 3-1 victory by scoring a goal during the game.

On November 1st, Mohsen was declared fully free of the C virus and the hepatitis C he had been harboring since the conclusion of the 2012 London Olympics, according to Petrojet assistant coach Samir Sabry. Mohsen scored the sole goal for his team in a subsequent friendly loss to Wadi Degla (3-1) and a 3-0 defeat to Haras El-Hudood.

Later, in front of a sizable crowd, he contributed to his team’s goal in an entertaining 1-2 loss in a friendly match against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly. A few weeks later, Petrojet participated in yet another friendly game against Ahly rivals Zamalek, the other Egyptian powerhouse. Mohsen scored twice as Petrojet surprised everyone by winning 2-1.
