Joo Maria Lobo Alves Palhinha Gonçalves, a defensive midfielder for Fulham of the Premier League and the Portugal national team, was born on July 9, 1995, in Portugal. Sporting CP
Palhinha, a Lisbon native, joined Sporting CP’s youth programme in 2012 when he was 17 years old. On February 3, 2014, in a 3–2 home victory against Portimonense in the Segunda Liga, he made his debut professional appearance with the B team. It was one of just two appearances he made that season.
On April 4, 2015, while still playing in the second division, Palhinha scored his first goal as a senior. His header helped his team defeat Leixes 3–1 at home.
From July 2015 to January 2017, he spent time on loan at the Primeira Liga teams Moreirense and Belenenses. With the former, he made his league debut in a 0–2 home loss to Arouca while playing 22 minutes off the bench, and with the latter, he scored his first goal against Vitória de Guimares (1–1 away draw, 90 minutes played).
Palhinha then returned to the Estadio José Alvalade and made his competitive debut with the first team on January 21 in a 2–2 draw against Martimo. On October 12 of the same year, he scored his first goals for them, scoring twice in a 4–2 away victory over Oleiros in the Taça de Portugal.

Palhinha agreed to a five-year deal for £20 million with Fulham on July 4 of that year. He made his Premier League debut on August 6 of that year, appearing in the whole 2-2 home draw against Liverpool.
International Career
Palhinha played for Portugal at the under-18, under-19, and under-20 levels.
