Hegazi’s professional playing career got underway on November 24, 2009, when he made his full-back debut for Egyptian Premier League team Ismaily.
The Egyptian club stated on December 22, 2011, that it has agreed to a contract with Fiorentina of Italy for the sum of €1.5 million. A 15% sell-on fee was paid to the Egyptian business. At Fiorentina, Hegazi received the number 3 jersey. He participated in a friendly match against Viareggio for 30 minutes, marking his unofficial club debut.
He made his professional debut on November 18 against Atalanta, then on November 28 against Juve Stabia, in the second half of a Coppa Italia game, he scored his first goal for La Viola. Hegazi underwent surgery on 12 December, according to Fiorentina, following a serious leg injury he sustained during training.
The club also disclosed that he had anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery. Before the participant could resume athletic activity, a 5–6 month recuperation period was anticipated. He was dealt another setback in September 2013 when the same ligament was torn while training for a second time, forcing him to miss the majority of the season for six months.
The player, along with Octávio, Mounir El Hamdaoui, Oleksandr Iakovenko, and Joshua Brillante, were all released in January 2015, according to a Fiorentina announcement made on December 8th.
West Bromwich Albion
Hegazi transferred from Al Ahly to Premier League team West Bromwich Albion on July 17, 2017, for a loan that would last until the conclusion of the 2017–18 campaign. Albion also had the option to make the move permanent.
On August 12, Hegazi made his Premier League debut for West Brom, scoring a headed goal in a 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth and earning the game’s MVP honors. He won the prize again the next game as West Brom thrashed the opposition Burnley and enjoyed their greatest start to a top-flight campaign since the 1978–1979 campaign.
On December 18, 2017, West Brom chose to sign Hegazi on a long-term contract. It was revealed that he would miss the opening few weeks of the 2019–20 season in July 2019, following ankle surgery.
At the age of just 20 years and 7 months, Hegazi made his international debut for the senior Egypt national team against Sierra Leone in 2011.
He has since been a consistent member of the national squad, missing just matches as a result of injury. He was added to the squad in December 2016 by Egypt’s head coach Héctor Cper in preparation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Hegazi played every minute of the competition as a regular in the back four for Egypt, who advanced all the way to the championship game. He was chosen for the CAF Team of the competition as a result of his performance.
Hegazi led the Egypt national team for the first time on November 17, 2020, during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-3 away victory over Togo.
