Controversies• In February 1998, De Niro was questioned if he was involved in a prostitution racket. De Niro denied the accusation and said that he would never come back to France. Although he did come to France for shooting a movie and also was the member of “2011 Cannes Film Festival”.
• There have been legal issues over his property in Gardiner, New York. His trust had appealed to lower the tax payment ($6 million) and challenged the decision in Supreme Court, which they won. The local residents that were earlier sympathetic of DeNiro, started collecting money on personal level to defend the state as it was already short on funds to run the estates.

Life Journey

Robert De Niro was born in the Manhattan borough of New York City, the only child of artists Virginia Admiral and Robert De Niro Sr. His father was of Irish and Italian descent, while his mother had Dutch, English, French, and German ancestry. His parents, who had gathered at the painting classes of Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts, left when he was two years old after his father stated that he was g*y.

He was built by his mother in the Greenwich Village and Little Italy regions of Manhattan. His father existed nearby and remained close with De Niro during his childhood. Nicknamed “Bobby Milk” because of his pale skin, De Niro encouraged a number of street kids in Little Italy, much to the displeasure of his father.

Some, however, have continued his lifelong friends. His mother was grown Presbyterian but became an atheist as an adult, while his father had been a faded Catholic since the age of 12. Against his parents’ wishes, his grandparents had De Niro privately baptized into the Catholic Church while he was visiting with them during his parents’ divorce.

De Niro joined PS 41, a public elementary school in Manhattan, through the sixth grade. He also started acting classes at the Dramatic Studio and began his stage appearance at age 10, performing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz.

He later moved to Elisabeth Irwin High School, the upper school of the Little Red School House, for the seventh and eighth grades. He was then admitted into the High School of Music and Art for the ninth grade, but only joined for a short time before shifting to a public junior high school, IS 71, Charles Evans Hughes Junior High School.

De Niro joined high school at McBurney School and then later, Rhodes Preparatory School. He saw performing as a way to reduce his shyness and became overwhelmed by the cinema, so he left out of high school at 16 to attempt acting. He studied acting at HB Studio and Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio. De Niro also read with Stella Adler, of the Stella Adler Conservatory, where he was presented to the techniques of the Stanislavski system.

De Niro wedded actress Diahnne Abbott in 1976. They have a son, Raphael, a former actor who works in New York real estate. De Niro also raised Abbott’s daughter Drena De Niro from an earlier relationship. De Niro and Abbott separated in 1988. Afterward, he was in a relationship with model Toukie Smith between 1988 and 1996.

De Niro has twin sons, Julian and Aaron, superfetated by in vitro fertilization and delivered by a surrogate mother in 1995. In 1997, De Niro married actress Grace Hightower. Their son, Elliot, was born in 1998 and the couple split in 1999. The divorce was never concluded and in 2004 they repeated their promises.

In December 2011, their daughter was born via surrogate. In November 2018, it was announced De Niro and Hightower had left after 20 years of marriage. De Niro has four grandchildren; his daughter, Drena, has one child, and his son, Raphael, has three.

In October 2003, De Niro was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He experienced surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in December 2003. In 2006, De Niro got an Italian passport. His citizenship was given by the Italian government despite strong opposition by the Sons of Italy, who think that De Niro hurt the public image of Italians by representing criminals. In 2012, De Niro followed the anti-fracking campaign Artists Against Fracking.

In 2016, De Niro initially recommended the addition of a controversial documentary, Vaxxed, at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. He revealed that his interest in the movie was from his personal experience with an autistic son, Elliot. The film was removed from the schedule after consultation with the festival organizers and scientific community”.

In February 2017, De Niro took part in a joint exhibition with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., chairman of the anti-vaccine non-profit Children’s Health Defense, to discuss their interests with vaccine safety. De Niro has said that he is not anti-vaccination but does question their ability.

Outside of acting, Robert De Niro is the co-founder of the extremely prosperous Nobu restaurant chain along with Nobu Matsuhisa. Today there are more than 40 Nobu spots around the world. It has been published that the Nobu empire makes several hundred million dollars in revenue every year. Robert is also a co-owner of The Greenwich Hotel in New York.

In 2017 Robert and Australian billionaire James Packer declared a planned luxury resort named “Paradise Found” which will be established on the Eastern Caribbean island of Barbuda.

In June 2019 Robert’s ex-wife Grace Hightower registered legal paperwork, as part of their continuing divorce, which gave special detail to their finances and assets.

According to Grace’s filing, Robert’s net worth is at least $500 million and that he made $250 – $300 million between 2004 and 2018 alone, much of which came from his expanding Nobu domain. Under the terms of a prenup that the two approved in 2004, grace would be owed $1 million per year for the number of years they were married, a $6 million apartment, $500,000 in cash, and half the price of their primary residence.

However, Ms. Hightower filed actions trying 50% of the actor’s fortune, pretending that he held her in the dark regarding his finances for more than a decade.

A later interpretation of the prenuptial agreement, as revealed in court documents, called for Robert to pay Grace $1 million in any year that he earned at least $15 million, which is most years. If he earned less, he would pay proportionally less to Grace.

In July 2020, as the divorce ran on, Grace filed a complaint with the court saying that Robert had illegally cut her monthly American Express allowance from $100,000 down to $50,000. De Niro’s response alleged that due to the COVID-19 crisis his income has shriveled up and his business empire is in free fall.

He reportedly had to pledge $500,000 to help cover part of Nobu’s mounting debts. His lawyers alleged that Nobu lost $3 million in April and $1.9 million in May. His lawyers also alleged that De Niro would be “lucky if he makes $7.5 million” in 2020.

Hightower’s lawyers alleged that Robert had “used the COVID pandemic. to stick it to his wife financially. I’m not a believer that a man who has an admitted worth of $500 million and gets $30 million a year, all of a sudden in March he needs to cut down by 50 percent and ban her from the house.”

The judge in the case finally concluded that reducing the Amex allowance to $50,000 wasn’t unreasonable but also managed Robert to pay Grace $75,000 to help her find a summer house since Robert is currently living in their former primary home.
