Rami Malek was born in Torrance, California on May 12, 1981, to Egyptian immigrant parents Said and Nelly. His father worked as an insurance salesman, while his mother worked as an accountant. He has an elder sister, Yasmine, and an identical twin brother, Sami.
Malek attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles’ Sherman Oaks neighborhood as a teenager. During his freshman year, he was a member of the debate team.
