Cruz was born in the town of Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain, to Encarna Sánchez, a hairstylist and personal manager, and Eduardo Cruz, a retailer and car repairman. She has two siblings, Mónica, also an actress, and Eduardo, a singer. She also has a paternal half-sister, Salma. She was grown as a Roman Catholic.
Cruz turned up in Alcobendas and gave long hours at her grandmother’s home. She states she had a happy childhood. Cruz gets “playing with some friends and being informed that I was acting as I was playing with them. I would think of a role and assume to be someone else.”
Initially, Cruz centered on dance, studying classical ballet for nine years at Spain’s National Conservatory. She got three years of Spanish ballet training and four years of theatre at Cristina Rota’s school. She states that ballet inserted in her discipline that would be necessary for her future acting career. When she grew a cinephile at 10 or 11, her father purchased a Betamax machine, which was then a very expensive thing to own in her neighborhood.
As a teenager, Cruz became involved in acting after viewing the film Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990) by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. She did part calls for an agent but was denied multiple times because the agent felt that she was too young.
In 1989, at the age of 15, Cruz won an audition at a talent agency over more than 300 other girls. In 1999, Katrina Bayonas, Cruz’s agent, said, “She was absolutely magic. It was clear there was something very impressive about this kid, She was very green, but there was a presence. There was just something coming from within.”
Her father, Eduardo, expired at his home in Spain in 2015, aged 62, from a heart attack.
Cruz is wedded to Spanish actor Javier Bardem. Bardem was her co-star in her breakthrough performance as Silvia in Jamón, Jamón, as well as working alongside her in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. They were also both in the 2013 movie The Counselor. Cruz started dating Bardem in 2007 and they married in early July 2010 in a private ceremony at a friend’s home in the Bahamas.
They have a son called Leo Encinas Cruz who was born in January 2011 in Los Angeles and a daughter Luna Encinas Cruz born in July 2013 in Madrid, Spain. She became an advocate of breastfeeding in public following the birth of her children.
Cruz had a three-year relationship with Tom Cruise after they performed together in Vanilla Sky. The relationship ended in January 2004. In June 2003, Cruz paid a defamation lawsuit against Australian magazine New Idea over an article it wrote about her relationship with Cruise; the publication had to withdraw, pay her legal costs, and donate $A5,000 ($3,200) to her nominated charity.
Her entrance into the world of cinema wasn’t a bright one as she encountered rejection a number of times. However, not the one to give up, she persistently continued with her endeavor to bag herself a role.
In 1989, she auditioned at a talent agency. With more than 300 girls eyeing for the performance, she came out winning, wowing the judges with her oozing fresh talent, an unmatched sense of presence, and extraordinary acting skills.
Her first job in front of the camera was for the Spanish pop group, ‘Mecano’ music video, ‘La Fuerza del Destino’.
Following this, she was frequently featured on television throughout the 1990s decade. She worked as the host for the teenage talk show, ‘La Quinta Marcha’. She also performed in an episode of an erotic French TV series called ‘Srie rose’
She made her big-screen debut with the feature movie, ‘Jamon, Jamon’ in 1992. She played the role of the female protagonist, Silvia. The film met with a favorable response. She was as much admired for her talent as for her daring nud*ty in the film, which made her a major s*x symbol overnight.
Her next deliverance was lined up for the same year titled, ‘Belle Epoque’. This Academy Award-winning movie had her playing the character of virg*nal Luz with complete perfection.
With as little as two movies old, it was too early to tag her as a flourishing artist but given her power-packed performances and skilled approach; she appeared to be destined for the riches and the glory. Staying true to the prophecy, she gave one hit after the other, and no sooner than in 1996, established herself as a successful Spanish and Italian film actor.
In 1997, she operated for internationally famous director Pedro Almodovar for his film, ‘Carne Tremula’. Her depiction of the role of Isabel Plaza Caballero earned her critical attention globally and set the stage for many more films from the Almodovar camp to come her way.
Her other offerings for the year 1997 include: ‘Love Can Seriously Damage Your Health’, ‘Live Flesh’ and ‘Open Your Eyes’.
The next year, she was cast in Stephen Frears’ western film, ‘The Hi-Lo Country’ which was a significant dud at the box office.
In 1998, she was seen in movies like, ‘Don Juan’ and ‘The Girl of Your Dreams’. The latter film earned her immense critical and commercial recognition for her portrayal of the character of Macarena Granada with complete perfection.
In 1999, she was observed in ‘All About My Mother’, a film directed by Peter Almodovar.
Meanwhile, in between doing Spanish movies, she received ballet and the English language to equip herself with the language.
At the age of 25, she chose to go to Hollywood. Being on top of her career she didn’t have much difficulty in getting the work. ‘Woman on Top’ was her first Hollywood offering, in which she was cast as Isabelle, a world-class chef suffering from motion sickness.
The same year, she performed the romantic lead in Billy Bob Thornton’s ‘All the Pretty Horses’. Both movies were well received.
The string of successful films made her resume quite remarkably expensive but the high point still remained elusive.
The Year 2001 loaded up for the same with the release of Cameron Crowe’s ‘Vanilla Sky’, an understanding of the Spanish film ‘Open Your Eyes’. The film was a major box office blockbuster, helping her garner her first crossover success.
Taking the success story of ‘Vanilla Sky’ further, she was paired opposite acting genius and stalwart, Johnny Depp in ‘Blow’. The film despite receiving mixed reviews from the public made a whopping $80 million at the box office worldwide.
She could not take the legacy of back to back super successful films any further as her following releases, ‘Don’t Tempt Me’ and ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ earned a negative response. Nevertheless, the latter led to keep the box office ticking by making $62 million worldwide.
The years 2002 to 2004 were tough years for her career, as none of her movies appeared to work. Starting from ‘Waking Up in Reno’ to ‘Gothika’, ‘Fanfan la Tulipe’, ‘Noel’ and ‘Head in the Clouds’ (2004), each of them proved to be a mess. The only saving grace was Sergio Castellitto’s melodrama ‘Don’t Move’.
In 2006, she was cast alongside Salma Hayek in the western comedy movie, ‘Bandidas’.
Following this, she was seen in ‘Volver’, a film from the Almodvar’s camp. For the same, she received numerous awards and recognitions.
In 2007, she worked in Woody Allen’s ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’. She performed the character of Maria Elena, a mentally unstable woman, with pure perfection, thus garnering positive reviews from critics and audiences.
She also got an Academy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress.
In 2010, she made a cameo appearance in the film, ‘S*x and the City 2’ which was a sequel of the 2008 film, ‘S*x and the City’.
The following year, she was a part of the cast for the fourth offering from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
Her latest deliverance includes Woody Allen’s 2012 film ‘To Rome with Love’ and ‘A Matador’s Mistress’ released on demand via cable, satellite, telco, and online. She is said to be working with Sergio Castellitto in his war tale, ‘Venuto al Mondo’.

Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, during her late grandfather King George V’s reign. Her father, the Duke of York, afterward King George VI, was the King’s second son, while her mother, the Duchess of York, later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, was the daughter of Scottish nobleman Claude Bowes-Lyon.
She was baptized at Buckingham Palace’s private chapel by Cosmo Gordon Lang, the Anglican Archbishop of York, and given the name Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. Her close relatives called to her Lilibet. Princess Margaret is Elizabeth’s only sibling. Marion Crawford, their governess, and their mother oversaw their education at home.
Elizabeth was third in line to the British throne during her grandfather’s reign, after her uncle Edward then her father. Despite the public’s excitement in her birth, Elizabeth was not anticipated to become queen because Edward was still youthful so likely he would marry and have children, who would take their place in the line to the throne ahead of her.
She emerged second in line of succession after her father when her grandpa died in 1936 and her uncle ascended as Edward VIII. Eventually, Edward abdicated when a constitutional crisis erupted over his anticipated marriage to widowed Wallis Simpson.
As a result, Queen Elizabeth II’s father was crowned king and given the regnal name George VI. Elizabeth became heir presumptive because she had no brothers. If her father had a later son, he might have been the chosen successor and would have been ahead of her in the line for the throne, which was established at the time by male hereditary rule.
When World War II broke out in 1939, Elizabeth and her sister were transferred to Windsor Castle and mostly kept out of London. She went on to make the first of her iconic radio broadcasts in 1940, this one comforting British youngsters who had been evacuated from their homes and family. Elizabeth quickly began to take on additional public responsibilities.
Elizabeth had her first public appearance checking the troops in 1942 when her father designated her commanding officer of the Grenadier Guards. Elizabeth enlisted in the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945 to aid in the military effort. She studied to be an excellent driver and technician with other British ladies. However, her volunteer effort was just for a few months.
Elizabeth met and fell in love, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark. On November 20, 1947, Elizabeth and Philip got married in Westminster Abbey. On November 14, 1948, Elizabeth delivered her first child, Prince Charles. In 1950, her second, Princess Anne, was born.
As George VI’s health condition worsened in 1951, Elizabeth regularly filled in for him at public engagements. Elizabeth and Philip embarked on a trip to New Zealand And Australia through Kenya in early 1952. They had barely returned to their Kenyan home on February 6, 1952, when word broke of the King’s death and, as a result, Elizabeth’s instant succession to the throne.
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2, 1953. The ritual at Westminster Abbey was aired for the first time, with the exception of the communion and anointing. At Elizabeth’s request, the floral symbols of Commonwealth nations were embroidered on her coronation robe. Elizabeth ruled for decades and on 9th September 2015, she became the longest-reigning monarch in history surpassing Queen Victoria.

Queen Elizabeth is not even close to becoming the world’s wealthiest lady, contrary to common perception. She isn’t even a billionaire in the traditional sense. Elizabeth’s assets are divided into two categories, her personal assets and assets held by an organization known as the Crown Estate.
Balmoral Castle in Scotland and the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England are owned by Queen Elizabeth directly. These are the properties she acquired from her father. She has a hefty stock portfolio, a number of works of art as well as a stamp collection.
The Crown Estate is a real estate holding company that is not controlled by Queen Elizabeth II or the government. If Queen Elizabeth were to directly possess the Crown Estate but she does benefit from its earnings.
The Crown Estate generates about $18 million in revenue for Elizabeth each year. The Duchy of Lancaster, a real estate portfolio, generates $27 million in annual revenue. Elizabeth uses a company called the Sovereign Grant to collect 25% of the Crown Estate’s profits to pay for her and her family’s needs.
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2, 1953. Elizabeth’s coronation, held at Westminster Abbey, was the first to be shown live on television. The event was seen by 27 million people in the United Kingdom, out of an overall population of 36 million, and 11 million more heard on the radio. Following that, 3 million people queued the path as the Queen and her staff returned to Buckingham Palace in a lengthy procession.
In 1970, when on a royal visit of Australia and New Zealand with Philip and Princess Anne, Queen Elizabeth defied centuries of royal custom by taking a leisurely stroll to meet throngs of people in person rather than waving from a safe distance. Since then, the British royals have gone on walkabouts both overseas and at home.
Elizabeth and Philip took the Gold State Coach through Buckingham Palace to St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 7 to celebrate her Silver Jubilee as Queen marking her 25 years on the throne. The queen, dressed in a bright pink gown with a headdress adorned with 25 fabric bells, reaffirmed her long-ago promise to devote her life to service.
On July 29, 1981, an estimated 750 million people in 74 countries saw the live broadcast to see Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest son, getting married to Lady Diana Spencer in St. Paul’s Cathedral. The successor to the British throne and the youthful couple had sparked widespread media interest, and their extravagant wedding was termed the wedding of the century.
During then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s administration decided in late 1984 to surrender Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China on July 1, 1997. Elizabeth became the first British queen to tour the Chinese territory in 1986, seeing Xi’an’s terracotta army, Beijing’s Great Wall, and other attractions.
Charles and Diana’s marriage deteriorated further, and they declared their separation in 1992. Queen Elizabeth II’s younger son, Prince Andrew, and his wife, Sarah Ferguson, split, while Anne separated from her husband, Mark Phillips. That year a massive fire broke out in Windsor Castle, damaging almost 100 rooms. Queen Elizabeth said in a speech marking the 40th anniversary of her accession that the year 1992 “has proved to be aAnnus Horribilis, which means a dreadful year in Latin.
After Diana’s death in a car accident in Paris in the summer of 1997, public criticism of the royal family increased. Initially, the queen denied allowing the flag to be flown over Buckingham Palace or even to address the country in mourning. She soon gave a rare broadcast speech to a country saddened by the loss of Princess Diana, People’s Princess, at the request of her advisers.
Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee celebrations were tarnished in 2002 by the deaths of her younger sister and their mother. Elizabeth traveled almost 40,000 miles during her Golden Jubilee year as the second British queen to do so, including excursions to the Caribbean, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. She also travelled across the United Kingdom, seeing 70 towns and cities in 50 regions.
In July 2013, the queen received Prince George, the first child of her son Prince William, as a new great-grandson. George is generally anticipated to become king one day, as he is third in line for the throne after his grandfather and father. This marked the first period since Queen Victoria’s rule that three generations of direct successors to the British monarchy were living around the same time.
In 2018 when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, a divorced biracial American actress, Elizabeth’s reign signified the changing monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II approved their wedding from the first but the British press and media were skeptical about the couple.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were stepping down as senior royals in 2020, the monarchy was harshly criticized.

She humorously imitates his appearance in the video for the latter song. During their dating relationship, they kept a low profile and were married on April 4, 2008. On April 22, 2008, their relationship became public knowledge, however, Beyoncé did not reveal her $5 million Lorraine Schwartz-designed wedding ring until the Fashion Rocks concert on September 5, 2008.
Their home is located in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles and costs $88 million. Generally, they do not discuss their relationship, and Beyoncé believes that this has contributed to their success, while Jay-Z stated in a People article that they do not “play with their relationship.”
As part of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2006, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were cited as the most powerful couple. Forbes ranked them as Hollywood’s top-earning couple in January 2009 with a combined income of $162 million. Their combined total of $122 million between June 2008 and June 2009 placed them at the top of the list the following year.
During the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant with their first child. The couple’s daughter, Blue Ivy, was born at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital on January 7, 2012. On January 9, 2012, Jay-Z released a song dedicated to their child called “Glory”.
The song details the couple’s pregnancy struggles, including Beyoncé’s miscarriage. As Blue’s cries appear at the end of “Glory”, she becomes the youngest person ever (at two days old) to appear on the Billboard chart when the song debuts at number 74 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
In June 2017, Beyoncé’s father Mathew Knowles announced that she and Jay-Z had welcomed twins: a daughter named Rumi and a son named Sir.

A 2003 Reebok collection featured Jay-Z advertising the S. Carter Collection. Jay-Z and Damon Dash founded the urban clothing brand Rocawear. There are clothing lines and accessories available at Rocawear for men, women, and children. After a disagreement with Dash, Jay-Z took over the line in early 2006.
Iconix Brand Group acquired the rights to the Rocawear brand from Jay-Z in March 2007 for $204 million. In addition to maintaining his stake in the company, he continues to oversee marketing, licensing, and product development.
Jay-Z’s Alcohol Beverages Brand Armand de Brignac
As part of his financial investment portfolio, Jay-Z invested $200 million in Armand de Brignac champagne in 2014, which at the time was owned by Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company.
As the gold bottles are often referred to in the media, the brand is popular with high-profile artists. Before he purchased the entire company, he had been associated with Armand de Brignac since 2006, and he received millions of dollars per year for his association with the company.
In his role as co-brand director for Budweiser Select, Jay-Z collaborates with the company to develop marketing strategies and creative advertising campaigns. His responsibilities include providing direction for brand programs and advertisements that appear on TV, radio, print, and at major events.
Jay-Z’s Investments In Technological Brands
Jay-Z purchased Aspiro, a Norwegian media technology company, in March 2015 for $56 million, which operates the subscription-based music streaming service Tidal, which was launched in October 2014.
His company Project Panther Bidco Ltd. purchased the service (which is indirectly owned by Jay-Z’s S. Carter Enterprises, a company that holds interests in leading international music, media, and entertainment companies).
It combines audio and music videos with curated editorial content. This service aims to bring major revenue streams back to music artists themselves. Jay-Z is a major shareholder in the company. The idea of an artist-owned streaming platform was formulated in order to “restore the value of music by launching an artist-owned service.”
Carter invested significantly in JetSmarter in July 2015, an app that facilitates the booking of private executive plane flights. Sergey Petrossov developed the application.
Jay-Z’s Investments In Music Industry
Jay-Z served as president of Def Jam Recordings from 2005 to 2008. As a result of Jay-Z’s leadership, Def Jam launched the careers of contemporary R&B singers Rihanna and Ne-Yo. Following the release of American Gangster in 2007, Jay-Z decided not to renew his contract as president and CEO of Def Jam in order to begin Roc Nation, the new Live Nation venture.
According to reports, Jay-Z purchased Block Starz Music from Universal Music and Jive Records in April 2011.
Jay-Z’s Investments In Sports Industry
Jay-Z was a part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets NBA team from 2003 to 2013; he paid approximately $1 million for his share, which had declined in value to $350,000 by April 2013, according to Forbes magazine’s valuation of the team.
After the team relocated to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (from New Jersey) in the 2012–2013 season, the Brooklyn Nets became known as the Brooklyn Nets.
In a press release published on the Life + Times website on April 18, 2013, Jay-Z announced that he would be relinquishing his ownership interest in the Brooklyn Nets. Eventually, the shares were sold to singer, rapper, actor, and entrepreneur Will Pan, making him the first American of Taiwanese descent to own a professional sports franchise in the United States.
In his bid, Jay-Z cited Pan’s athletic background (he played college basketball and was a high school team captain), his varied musical styles, his influence within the Taiwanese American community, and his business acumen and portfolio (including founding and leading Camigo Media and being a co-founder of N.P.C, streetwear boutique), among other reasons.
His stake in Barclays Center was sold for $1.5 million in September 2013.
Media reported on April 2, 2013, that Jay-Z plans to launch his own sports agency, Roc Nation Sports, focused on representing professional athletes. The sports management group is a partnership between Creative Artists Agency and the Sport Management Group.
With the launch of the agency, New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Canó left Scott Boras to join the agency. According to the media, Jay-Z plans to become a certified sports agent, first in baseball and then in basketball and football. He would have to give up some of his ownership interest in the Brooklyn Nets in order to represent clients in basketball.
The English media reported in October 2005 that he was considering purchasing a stake in Arsenal F.C., an English soccer team. In January 2010, he was awarded a contract to operate a 4,500-slot machine racino at the Aqueduct Race Track through his conglomerate company Gain Global Investments Network LLC, which held a stake between 2 and 7% in Aqueduct Entertainment Group (AEG).
Jay-Z became interested in the project after New York Governor David Paterson, who awarded the contract, stated the owner of the project must reflect affirmative action. The contract was initially offered to Jay-Z by casino mogul Steve Wynn, who was also bidding.
Jay-Z and Flake withdrew from the project on March 9, 2010, and Paterson resigned.
Jay-Z’s Investments In Media
Jay-Z launched the popular culture and lifestyle online magazine Life + Times on April 5, 2011. He showcases his high-end tastes in clothing, appliances, and automobiles on the site.
With sports and music-related posts accompanying those concerning fashion and design, the site design is aesthetically geared towards the upwardly mobile young male demographic. The Decoded series is based on Jay-Z’s memoir of the same name and features a select group of rappers decoding their own lyrics.
When Funkmaster Flex was contacted by the webzine in January 2015, he revealed that he had been contacted in 2013 for a story about the digital app he had created at the time, but that the information was allegedly used to assist with the launch of Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Samsung application following the release of the album. In response to Vibe, Flex stated, “But I was good with that. I ate that. Everyone is out here hustling.”.
His two-year exclusive film and television deal with the Weinstein Company gave them first-look options to develop scripted and unscripted TV and film projects, and those projects were in production.
As part of his contract with the Weinstein company, he produced a documentary series about Kalief Browder, who was imprisoned for three years and committed suicide once released. A conscious effort was made to address racial profiling and police brutality.
In addition to owning the 40/40 Club in New York City, Jay-Z also owns clubs in Atlantic City and Chicago. During 2008, Las Vegas’ 40/40 Club was closed and repurchased by the hotel following a steady decline in attendance.
Jay-Z became an investor in Carol’s Daughter in 2005, a company that offers beauty products for hair, skin, and hands.
His business partners, Juan, and Desiree Perez joined him in a deal with Delaware North to expand the 40/40 Club sports bar chain into as many as 20 airports. Earlier this year, Jay-Z published a memoir titled Decoded, which was published on November 16, 2010.
As a result of the failure of Jay-Z’s cologne, Gold, Parlux fragrances sued him for $18 million. As a result of Jay-Z’s lack of social media posts and interviews regarding the cologne, they claim that the cologne has failed.
In the first year after launch, Parlux anticipates selling $15 million, and $35 million in the second and subsequent years. The fragrance sold $14 million in its first year and $6.1 million in its second year. In addition to losing money on the venture, Parlux has had to return unsold inventory on a regular basis.
Cohiba collaborated with Jay-Z to launch his own cigar line.
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will partner with Long Island University to establish the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment in August 2020.

Beginning Of Jay-Z’s Music Career With “Reasonable Doubt”
In 1995, Jay-Z, without a record deal from a major label, sold CDs out of his car and founded Roc-A-Fella Records as an independent label with Damon “Dame” Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke.
In 1996, Jay-Z released Reasonable Doubt, which featured beats from DJ Premier and Super DJ Clark Kent, plus an appearance by The Notorious B.I.G.
Critics generally favored the album, which reached number 23 on the Billboard 200.
Eventually, the album reached platinum status and was included in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
“In My Lifetime”, “Vol. 1”
A new distribution deal with Def Jam enabled Jay-Z to release In My Lifetime, Vol. 1. ‘Puff Daddy’ produced it, which sold more than his previous effort.
Later, Jay-Z explained that the album was made when he was grieving over the death of The Notorious B.I.G.
It was a personal revelation for Jay-Z as he told stories of his difficult childhood. Compared to his first release, the album’s glossy production stood out, and some fans felt he had “sold out.”
Some beats were produced by DJ Premier and Ski, who worked with him on Reasonable Doubt.
The sequel to In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 earned platinum status in the United States.
His next solo album was 2002’s The Blueprint2: The Gift & The Curse. Over 3 million units were sold in the U.S. alone, surpassing The Blueprint on the Billboard 200.
In a single-disc version, The Blueprint 2.1, half the tracks were retained.
Jay-Z’s then-girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles features on two hit singles from the album, “Excuse Me Miss” and “’03 Bonnie & Clyde”. As well as “Guns & Roses”, “Hovi Baby” was a successful radio single.
Among the album’s tracks were “A Dream”, featuring Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G., and “The Bounce”, featuring Kanye West.
In The Blueprint 2.1, Panjabi MC produced and featured tracks such as “Stop”, “La La La (Excuse Me Again)”, “What They Gonna Do, Part II” and “Beware”.
“The Black Album”
During the opening of the 40/40 Club, Jay-Z announced work on The Black Album, his eighth studio album.
Producers he worked with include Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Kanye West, Timbaland, Eminem, DJ Quik, 9th Wonder, The Buchanans, and Rick Rubin. Among the songs were “What More Can I Say”, “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”, and “Change Clothes”.
More than 3 million copies of The Black Album have been sold. He collaborated with R. Kelly and released the Best of Both Worlds album.
As a retirement party, Jay-Z held a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 25, 2003, which became the subject of his film Fade to Black. Funds went to charity.
A number of collaborators performed, such as the Roots (his backing band), Missy Elliott, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Siegel, Freeway, Mary J. Blige, Twista, Ghostface Killah, Foxy Brown, Pharrell Williams, and R. Kelly. Voletta Wallace and Afeni Shakur, the mothers of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, both performed.

2005–2007: “Kingdom Come” And “American Gangster”
Jay-Z headlined Power 105.1’s annual concert, Powerhouse, on October 27, 2005. Jay-Z’s “I Declare War” concert sparked intense speculation in the weeks preceding the concert on who exactly he would declare war on.
The Powerhouse show was perceived as an all-out assault by Jay-Z on his rivals since he had previously declared war on them at other events.
With an Oval Office mock-up on stage, the concert focused on Jay-Z’s position as CEO of Def Jam.
To hip-hop fans’ surprise, Jay-Z put many arguments to rest at the end of the concert. This show marked the end of Jay-Z and Nas’ infamous hip-hop rivalry.
Former rivals Jay-Z and Nas performed Jay-Z’s “Dead Presidents” blended with Nas’s “The World is Yours”.

The movie American Gangster inspired Jay-Z’s American Gangster. “Blue Magic” offers a dealer’s manifesto while referencing political figures of the late 1980s in the lyrics: “Blame Reagan for turning me into a monster, blame Oliver North and Iran-Contra for sponsoring contraband. We used to be in concerts before this rhyming stuff.”
