Murillo, a Panama City native who completed the youth program at San Francisco, made his senior debut in the 2014–15 season at the age of just 18. His greatest season, in which he made 21 league appearances and scored three goals, was in 2015–16. He rapidly established himself as a first-team regular. Murillo scored his first two goals for Los Monjes in a 2-1 victory over Alianza on October 25, 2015.
Murillo played the whole game for San Francisco on December 10, 2015, in the inaugural Copa Panamá, which his team won against Chepo 5-4 on penalties after the score remained 0-0 after extra time. This was the team’s first championship.
New York Red Bulls
Murillo’s season-long loan to the New York Red Bulls was announced on February 18, 2017. In a 4-0 thumping of Montreal Impact on July 29, 2017, Murillo scored his first goal for New York. The final game to be played at RFK Stadium was on October 22, 2017, when Murillo scored his second goal for New York in a 2-1 victory over D.C. United. On November 11, 2017, the Red Bulls used their contractual option to bring him aboard for good.
Murillo provided two assists on two goals on March 13, 2018, as New York defeated Club Tijuana 3-1 to go to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals for the first time.
The Red Bulls revealed Murillo’s move to R.S.C. Anderlecht in Belgium on December 6, 2019. On February 23, 2020, Murillo scored his first goal for his new team during a 6-1 victory over K.A.S. Eupen.
In 2016, Murillo was selected for the Panama national team and made his debut. Murillo scored his first goal for Panama in a 2-1 win over Martinique on April 27, 2016.
In the last round of World Cup qualifying for 2018, Murillo started three of Panama’s 10 CONCACAF Hexagonal games, assisting Panama in reaching its first World Cup. He was included in the final 23-man roster for Panama’s World Cup team in May 2018. In Panama’s defeats to Belgium and England in the group stage, Murillo started right back. He was unable to participate in the team’s final group game against Tunisia because he got a yellow card in each of the previous two games.
