Jyothika Saravanan is a well-known Indian actress who predominantly appears in Tamil films. She also acted in a few Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi films. Jyothika was born in a Hindu family on 18 October 1978, in Mumbai. Jyothika was born to Chander Sadanah, a film producer Seema Sadanah, in Mumbai, India. Actress Nagma is her half-sister. She also has a sister Roshini (born Radhika) and a brother Suraj, who is working as an assistant director for Priyadarshan. Jyothika married actor Surya Sivakumar on September 11, 2006. The couple has a daughter, named Diya, who was born in 2007, and a son Dev (born 7 June 2010).

Jyothika completed her schooling at Learners Academy, Mumbai. She went to College Mithibai College, Mumbai, and completed graduation in Psychology. Jyothika started her acting career in 1998 by playing the role of Pallavi Sinha in the Bollywood film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna.
Her first Tamil movie as a lead artist was Poovellam Kettuppar with Surya Sivakumar. She starred in Kushi, for which she won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award, Mugavari, Thenali, and Dumm Dumm Dumm.
