Life Journey

The following Jan Vertonghen Biography tells you about his Childhood, Early Life, Parents, Family, Wife, Lifestyle, Net Worth, and Personal Life. In a nutshell, I will share with you the story of a Football Genius known as “Super Jan”. Woodgram begins the Belgian’s bio with his earliest days, up until the time when he became famous.

Yes, everyone knows about his rise to dominance in the premier league but not many consider Jan Vertonghen’s biography, which is quite interesting. Without further ado, here we go.

His full name is Jan Bert Lieve Vertonghen. It was on the 24th of April 1987 that he was born in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, a town where football brings hope to the people.

Spurs legend Paul Vertonghen was born as the first child of Ria Mattheeuws and Paul Vertonghen. Jan’s childhood story is interesting, if not uncommon – it revolves around the life of a wonderful firstborn child who becomes an extraordinary talent.

As Jan grew up, he developed a steely determination to accomplish his dreams. Childhood dreams of becoming a professional footballer drove him to work hard every single day. It wasn’t just a passing fancy. It became a footstep he, his brother Lode, and Ward followed.

Vertonghen spent time at VK Tielrode and Germinal Beerschot before joining AFC Ajax’s youth academy. At Ajax, Vertonghen’s breakthrough was delayed by the presence of another Belgian, Thomas Vermaelen.

Later on, however, he progressed to the club’s senior team after outgrowing all club ranks. During the 2008-09 season, the young defender broke through. Vertonghen became Thomas Vermaelen’s first-choice partner in central defense when John Heitinga left for Atletico Madrid.

Eventually, he became Ajax club captain, following in the footsteps of Johann Cruyff. In 2011-12, Jan won the Eredivisie Player of the Year award. Ajax won their second title in a row thanks to his eight goals in 31 league games, highlighting his offensive capabilities.

Top European teams sought his services due to his rising importance. However, Tottenham ultimately won the race to sign him. As they say, the rest is history.

His many years in the Netherlands, his home country, has brought Jan Vertonghen, so much love. Sophie, a theater arts teacher, is the love of his life. In 2014, Jan Vertonghen announced via Instagram that he and his girlfriend Sophie de Vries had just gotten engaged.

After investing in football, Jan Vertonghen and his family came from a middle-class family. Ria Vertonghen finds time to make a catalog of her favorite son’s football collections, based on his international and club careers.

Ward and Lode Vertonghen is Jan Vertonghen’s younger brothers. In their football careers, both brothers followed in the footsteps of their elder brother Jan, but with lesser success. Lode Vertonghen is Jan Vertonghen’s younger brother. He was born on Feb 5, 1990, making him 3 years younger than Jan.

At the time of writing, Lode Vertonghen is playing for KFC Duffel (Belgian lower league) as a defensive midfielder. The youngest brother of Jan Vertonghen is Ward Vertonghen, another footballer from the lower Belgian league.

Vertonghen scored a bizarre goal in 2006 when he attempted to pass the ball to an injured opponent’s goalkeeper. To make up for this goal, Ajax allowed the opposition to score one back. This is a shining example of fair play.

Toby Alderweireld Biography, Age, Height, Wife, Career, Net Worth & Wiki

Club Career

Ajax

  • Vertonghen spent time at VK Tielrode and Germinal Beerschot before moving to the Netherlands and signing with the youth academy of Eredivisie side AFC Ajax.
  • He began his career as a midfielder before switching to center-back for Ajax. He became better known for an incident in the 2006 KNVB Cup game against Cambuur Leeuwarden. This was his first home game at the Amsterdam Arena, in which he scored a goal to put Ajax 3–0 up.
  • As a teammate was receiving treatment, he attempted a back pass to the Cambuur goalkeeper, but instead, the ball rolled into the goal. Ajax left Cambuur with the opportunity to score in return since it was unintentional.
  • Vertonghen made his first-team debut against Copenhagen in the Champions League third qualifying round on 23 August 2006.
  • He played in two more matches for the first half of the season after making his Eredivisie debut in a 6–0 win over Willem II at the Amsterdam Arena.

Loan to RKC

During the 2006–07 season, he was sent on loan to struggling RKC Waalwijk for the remainder of the season. At RKC, he scored three times in 12 matches, but could not prevent the team from relegation to the Eerste Divisie. In a 2–2 draw with his parent club, Ajax, he scored one of his goals with RKC Waalwijk. This helped Ajax finish second in the league with one fewer goal difference than PSV.

Breakthrough at Ajax

  • Ajax tipped Vertonghen for stardom in the 2007–08 season, but a severe injury and the presence of John Heitinga and Thomas Vermaelen prevented him from breaking through.
  • Cruyff had been open about his admiration for the left-footed youngster capable of playing in any left-sided position in defense and midfield. He extended his contract to 30 June 2013 on 26 September 2008.
  • 2008-09 was a breakthrough season for the young defender. When John Heitinga left for Atlético Madrid, Vertonghen was Thomas Vermaelen’s first choice in central defense; the former started 23 of 26 games he played and scored four goals.
  • In a 3–0 victory over Vitesse on 28 September, he scored a rare double. The 24-year-old was injured during training during the week but still played in the match against Groningen on 24 January, which was considered a “must-win” match by coach Marco van Basten.
  • In Ajax’s 1–0 loss, Vertonghen received two yellow cards and was sent off. Following a hamstring injury sustained against Utrecht on 1 March, he was out for a month, from Utrecht. However, he played only a few games before another injury ended his season prematurely.

Rising importance under Jol

  • For the 2009–10 season, Vertonghen retained his place in the starting lineup under new coach Martin Jol. After injuring his toe while on international duty against Spain the week before, he scored his first goal of the season in a 6–0 thrashing of NAC Breda on 13 September.
  • After the departure of Thomas Vermaelen to Arsenal, he and fellow Belgian Toby Alderweireld were the first choice center-back pairing and became firm fan favorites.
  • Despite Ajax’s erratic form in the final weeks leading up to the winter break, he turned in some strong performances. He attracted the attention of several clubs, including Barcelona, but he played down the rumors, stating his intent to see out the remainder of his contract.
  • Vertonghen played a key role in Ajax’s nine-game unbeaten streak in the league after the winter break. A penalty awarded to PSV ended their run of six consecutive clean sheets in a 4–1 victory over them at home.
  • Vertonghen was linked with a move to Newcastle United, and later with Milan stating, “I heard Milan Director Adriano Galliani talk about me after the Champions League match in San Siro.”
  • He stated on numerous occasions late in the 2010–11 season that he was considering leaving Ajax.
  • Earlier this year, Frank de Boer confirmed Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was at the 2011 KNVB Cup Final where Vertonghen’s side lost 3–2 to Twente.
  • Mancini reportedly scouted Vertonghen to strengthen his team after they qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2011–12.

Breakthrough under De Boer

  • After several regular players were sent out on long-term loans, Vertonghen emerged as one of Ajax’s most valuable players during the 2011–12 Eredivisie season.
  • In recognition of his outstanding performance against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, he was named the 2011–12 Eredivisie Player of the Year.
  • Captained by Frank de Boer, he led Ajax to their second title in a row, scoring eight goals in 31 league games, highlighting his attacking abilities.
  • He also dropped the Championship plate for the second time. “Now it falls on my toe – the plate just doesn’t like me,” Vertonghen said.

Tottenham Hotspur

  • Vertonghen was linked with Tottenham Hotspur throughout the 2011–12 season and publicly expressed his desire to move to White Hart Lane over other clubs.
  • This was primarily due to his desire to play as a center-back, with Arsenal wanting to use him as a defensive midfielder.
  • In July 2012, Tottenham agreed to a fee and terms for Vertonghen pending a medical.
  • Tottenham announced on 12 July that they had officially signed Vertonghen for 12 million Euros after his medical was a success. Vertonghen made his Tottenham debut in a friendly win over Brentford on 14 July and scored his first goal for the club in a 3–0 win against Carlisle United in the third round of the Football League Cup on 26 September.
  • Verstonghen scored his first Premier League goal against Manchester United in a 2–3 win at Old Trafford, but it was later ruled to be an own goal by Jonny Evans.
  • In the league for Tottenham on 16 December, he scored the only goal in a win over Swansea City at White Hart Lane.
  • On 10 March, Vertonghen scored a brace in a losing effort against Liverpool. He was named Premier League Player of the Month for March 2013, making him the second Belgian to win it and the 12th Spurs player to win it.
  • Vertonghen was sent off during Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Basel on 11 April 2013. Despite a 4–4 draw on aggregate, Tottenham lost the tie 4–1 on penalties.
  • In defense, Vertonghen was named to the 2012–13 PFA Team of the Year with Rio Ferdinand, Leighton Baines, and Pablo Zabaleta.
  • During a League Cup match with Aston Villa in September, Nicklas Helenius gained notoriety when Jan Vertonghen pulled down his shorts during a goal attempt, revealing his briefs.
  • In the following match against Chelsea, during which Fernando Torres was sent off, Chelsea coach José Mourinho believed Vertonghen shouldn’t have played due to the Helenius incident in which he alleged Vertonghen had left the striker “nak*d”.
  • Vertonghen seemed out of favor with new manager Mauricio Pochettino at the beginning of the 2014–15 season.
  • He gave Vertonghen limited playing time, preferring Younès Kaboul and Federico Fazio. Kaboul lost his position, however, to Vertonghen, who formed an effective partnership with Fazio.
  • Together, they had 11 wins and only one loss throughout 15 games. On 1 March 2015, Vertonghen started the 2015 League Cup Final for Tottenham, but they lost to Chelsea 2–0 at Wembley Stadium.
  • At the start of the 2015-16 season, Vertonghen was joined in defense by former Ajax teammate and compatriot Alderweireld.
  • During the first ten games of the season, Vertonghen and Alderweireld played ten of the games together, with Spurs only losing one. He suffered a medial knee ligament injury late in January 2016 and was unable to play for 11 weeks.
  • Tottenham beat Manchester United 3–0 at home on 10 April 2016 in the first home league victory for Tottenham against Manchester United since 2001.
  • The partnership with Alderweireld in the defense was considered a key to the club’s joint-lowest goal conceded total in the Premier League that season.
  • Vertonghen signed a new contract with Tottenham on 2 December 2016. Vertonghen suffered an ankle ligament injury in mid-January 2017, which would keep him out for five weeks.
  • On 19 February, he was recalled to the team for the fifth-round FA Cup match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
  • Vertonghen was part of Tottenham’s defense that achieved the best defensive record in the Premier League, with only 26 goals conceded, 6 more than the previous record of 32 conceded in the 1908–09 season in the Second Division. At the time, he was considered one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
  • Vertonghen scored his first goal for the club since October 2013 in the 3–0 win over Wimbledon in the third round of the 2017–18 FA Cup on 7 January 2018.
  • He appeared in 36 Premier League games this season, as well as six UEFA Champions League matches and five cup matches.
  • Vertonghen scored Tottenham’s first goal of the 2018–19 season eight minutes into the game against Newcastle United, helping the team to a 2–1 victory.
  • His hamstring injury occurred in the game against Huddersfield on 29 September, and he was sidelined for two months. He returned to the starting lineup in the Champions League game against Inter Milan in late November.
  • His contract with Tottenham was extended until 2020 in December. In the Champions League last 16 round, Vertonghen played left wing-back against Borussia Dortmund, scoring one goal and providing one assist in a 3–0 victory.
  • UEFA named him the Champions League Player of the Week for his performance in this match.
  • During the semifinal of the Champions League, he suffered a head injury after colliding with Toby Alderweireld.
  • Spurs won their first Champions League final after he returned to play in Amsterdam wearing a protective mask and helped the team to a dramatic win against Ajax.
  • In the following and final season with Tottenham, Vertonghen revealed he suffered concussion symptoms, such as dizziness and headaches, for nine months after the collision.
  • A late goal like the winning goal by Vertonghen helped Wolverhampton Wanderers win 2–1 on the road in the 2019–20 season.
  • He scored his 300th Tottenham goal in a 2–1 home comeback win over Brighton & Hove Albion on 26 December 2019.
  • Vertonghen’s contract was originally set to expire on 30 June 2020, but due to the COVID-19 stoppage, it has been extended to the end of the 2019–20 campaign.
  • Following Crystal Palace’s match against the club in the last game of the season, he became a free agent. Vertonghen did not play in the game.

Benfica

  • Benfica announced his signing on August 14, 2020. He will sign a three-year contract. A one-leg loss of 2–1 in the third qualifying round of the Champions League saw him score an own goal in his debut against Greece’s PAOK FC on 15 September.
  • The following week, he played in the Primeira Liga for the first time, winning 5-1 against Famalicão in the season opener.
  • Vertonghen scored his first goal for Benfica in a Europa League match against Lech Poznan on 3 December 2020.

Early Life

Collins was born in the Hampstead neighbourhood of London in 1937 and grew up there. Elsa (née Bessant) Collins (dead 1962) and Joseph William Collins (died 1988), a theatrical agent whose clients included Dame Shirley Bassey, the Beatles, and Sir Tom Jones, was the younger daughter of Elsa (née Bessant) Collins (died 1962) and Joseph William Collins (died 1988).

Collins was born in South Africa to a Jewish father and an Anglican mother. Collins was the middle child, with a younger brother, Bill, and an older sister, Joan Collins (actor and novelist) (who became a property agent). Collins was expelled from Francis Holland School, a private girls’ day school in London when she was 15 years old. She had a short romance with Marlon Brando, who was 29 at the time.

Personal Life

Collins was born in the United Kingdom and raised in the United States (by naturalization, from 6 May 1960). She married Wallace Austin in 1960, but the couple separated in 1964. Austin’s addiction to medications prescribed for manic mania led to their divorce, and he died of a planned overdose a year after they divorced. Tracy, the couple’s only child, was born in 1961. Collins married for the second time in 1965, this time to Oscar Lerman, the proprietor of the Ad-Lib and Tramp nightclubs in New York City. Her sister Joan and her husband at the time, Anthony Newley, hosted the wedding at their house. Early Career

Collins was born in Hampstead, London, in 1937. Elsa (née Bessant) Collins (died 1962) and Joseph William Collins (died 1988) were theatrical agents who represented Dame Shirley Bassey, the Beatles, and Sir Tom Jones. Collins’ father was Jewish and her mother was Anglican.

Collins has a younger brother, Bill, and an older sister, Joan Collins (actor and novelist) (who became a property agent). Collins was expelled from Francis Holland School, an independent day school for girls in London when she was 15 years old. She had a short romance with Marlon Brando, 29, around this time. The World Is Full of Married Men (1968), her debut novel, was a best-seller. She claimed she was a “school dropout” and “juvenile delinquent” when she was 15 years old, four decades later: She commented, “I’m pleased I got all of it out of my system at such a young age,” adding that she “never pretended to be a literary writer.”

Professional Career

Collins had started numerous works of fiction but never finished them, and it was only until her second husband Oscar Lerman pushed her to do so that she finished her first novel. He informed her, “You’re a storyteller.”  After the publication of her debut novel, The World is Full of Married Men, romance author Barbara Cartland slammed it as “nasty, dirty, and sickening,” accusing Collins of “making every pervert in Britain.” Although the book was banned in Australia and South Africa, the controversy boosted sales in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Stud, her second novel, was released in 1969. It was also included in best-seller lists. Sunday Simmons & Charlie Brick (originally published under the title The Hollywood Zoo in the UK and then retitled Sinners worldwide in 1984) was Collins’ third novel, and it was released in 1971 and hit the best-seller lists once again. Collins’s first novel set in the United States was this one. In 1974, Lovehead arrived (retitled as The Love Killers in 1989). This was Collins’ first step into the realm of organised crime, a field that she would go on to become immensely successful. Collins later released The World Is Full of Divorced Women in 1975 (which was unconnected to her first work) and Lovers & Gamblers in 1977, which was about rock/soul sensation Al King.

Collins tried his hand at screenwriting in the late 1970s. The Stud (1978), based on her second book, was co-written by her and starred her older sister Joan as the gold-digging adulteress Fontaine Khaled. Collins then created the script for the film adaptation of her debut novel, The World Is Full of Married Men (1980). Her eighth novel, The Bitch (1979), was a sequel to The Stud and was adapted into a popular 1979 film, with Joan Collins repeating her role. Around the same period, Collins developed an original screenplay for the film Yesterday’s Hero (not based on any of her novels) (1979).

Collins and her family relocated to Los Angeles full-time in the 1980s, where she continued to write about the “rich and famous.” She said, “There is a spot you should be at a given moment if you want to be successful. It was Los Angeles in the 1980s.” Chances were her next book (1981). Lucky Santangelo, the “dangerously attractive” daughter of a mafia, was one of her most well-known characters.

Collins gathered information and experience while living in the hills above Sunset Boulevard, which she used to write her most commercially successful novel, Hollywood Wives (1983), which debuted at number one on The New York Times best-seller list. The novel, marketed as a “scandalous exposé,” sold over 15 million copies and elevated Collins to a prominent position, putting her on par with her sister Joan, whose own career had taken off thanks to her appearance on the television programme Dynasty.

Produced by Aaron Spelling and starring Candice Bergen, Stefanie Powers, Angie Dickinson, Anthony Hopkins, Suzanne Somers, and Rod Steiger, Hollywood Wives was adapted into a television miniseries in 1985. Collins subsequently alleged that she was never contacted during production and that she did not agree with any of the casting selections, despite being labelled as a “creative consultant.”

She went on to write the sequel to Chances, Lucky (1985), as well as Hollywood Husbands (1986). In 1990, Collins released Lady Boss, her third Lucky Santangelo novel, and authored and co-produced Lucky Chances, a television miniseries based on her first two Lucky Santangelo novels and starring Nicollette Sheridan and Sandra Bullock. Collins’ husband of 26 years, Oscar Lerman, died of cancer in 1992, leaving her widowed.

She authored and produced another miniseries based on the Lady Boss novel around this period, with Kim Delaney in the major role. Collins’ best-seller streak continued with American Star (1993), Hollywood Kids (1994), and Vendetta: Lucky’s Revenge, his fourth Santangelo novel (1996). In 1993, she was on the topic of This Is Your Life, when Michael Aspel shocked her.

In 1998, she attempted to break into chat show television with Jackie Collins’ Hollywood, but it was a failure. She also created the novel Thrill (1998) and a four-part mini-novel series called L.A. Connections, which was published every six weeks in a newspaper and featured a new heroine in the form of investigative journalist Madison Castelli. Dangerous Kiss, the fifth Lucky Santangelo novel, was released in 1999. Collins’ busiest decade was the 2000s when she released eight best-sellers, more than any other decade in her career. Collins revived Madison Castelli in a new novel, Lethal Seduction, published in 2000.

Hollywood Wives: The New Generation, which she published in 2001, was transformed into a 2003 television movie starring Farrah Fawcett, Melissa Gilbert, and Robin Givens. (Collins was an executive producer on the film.) Deadly Embrace, a new Madison Castelli book, was released in 2002, and Hollywood Divorces was released in 2003. Collins presented a series of television specials for E! Entertainment Television called Jackie Collins Presents in 2004. Collins proceeded with Lovers & Players (2006), Drop Dead Beautiful (2007), the sixth Lucky Santangelo novel, and Married Lovers (2008), which is about the affairs of a female personal trainer named Cameron Paradise. The film Poor Little Bitch Girl (2009) followed, which was based on a concept Collins had for a television series about heiresses that was never completed.

Amber Entertainment collaborated with UK grocery company Tesco to produce Paris Connections (2010), a direct-to-DVD film based on Collins’ L.A. Connections series of mini-novels. Charles Dance, Trudie Styler, and Nicole Steinwedell feature in the film (as Madison Castelli). Collins worked as a co-producer on the film, and three more Madison Castelli movies are in the works. Collins continues to create stories featuring Lucky Santangelo, including Goddess of Vengeance.

The Power Trip, her 29th novel, was released in February 2013. Confessions of a Wild Child was released in February 2014, and a film deal was announced before the book was even released. The Lucky Santangelo Cookbook (2014) is named after the protagonist of nine Collins novels, who is frequently seen cooking complex gourmet delicacies for her close friends (and who watched her father throw a plate of food at her mother as a child). Collins’ final book, The Santangelos (2015), was a finale to the Santangelo trilogy she started with Chances.

Life Journey

Diane Keaton was born Diane Hall in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Dorothy Deanne, was a homemaker and amateur photographer, and her father, John Newton Ignatius “Jack” Hall, was a real estate agent and civil engineer.

Keaton was grown as a Free Methodist by her mother. Her mother won the “Mrs. Los Angeles” pageant for homemakers. Keaton has told that the theatricality of the event encouraged her first impulse to be an actress, and led to her wanting to work on stage. She has also credited Katharine Hepburn, whom she credits for playing strong and independent women, as one of her revelations.

Keaton is a 1964 graduate of Santa Ana High School in Santa Ana, California. During her time there, she participated in singing and acting clubs at school and starred as Blanche DuBois in a school production of A Streetcar Named Desire. After graduation, she attended Santa Ana College, and later Orange Coast College as an acting student, but dropped out after a year to seek an entertainment career in Manhattan.

She initially studied acting under the Meisner technique, an organization acting technique first evolved in the 1930s by Sanford Meisner, a New York stage actor/acting coach/director who had been a member of The Group Theater (1931–1940).

In 1968, Keaton became a member of the “Tribe” and understudy to Sheila in the original Broadway production of Hair. Life Journey

Simon Kjær Biography tells you about his Childhood, Early Life, Family, Parents, Children (Milas and Viggo), Ex-Wife (Camilla), and current Wife (Elina Gollert). Specifically, Dane’s net worth and personal life.

You will follow the center-back’s life journey, from his early days to when he became famous.

Simon Kjær, the Danish captain who became a hero during Euro 2020, will never be forgotten by the football world. Christian Eriksen’s life was saved by his calm act of administering vital health measures before the doctors arrived.

We present you with his fascinating expeditions that led to his stardom in the 21st century. Let’s begin.

He is known as ‘The Viking’ in Biography. Simon Thorup Kjær was born in Horsens, Denmark, on the 26th day of March 1989, to his Danish father, Jorn Kjær, and his Danish mother, Lotte Kjær. During his father and mother’s union, the defender was the eldest of two children. In the young boy’s opinion, there was no better way to spend childhood days than sitting with his mother.

Having the chance to listen to her exciting fairytales all the time is a wonderful experience for him. As a child, he no doubts made a lot of happy memories with his parents.

Growing up in Horsens, soccer was always the priority for the upcoming defender. While growing up, he enjoyed spending time with his sister (Alberte Kjær). A memorable part of his youthful days was, however, his participation in football.

At the age of four, Kjær had already mastered the art of kicking a ball. Even though he was not the most talented of his peers, he gave his all to the game.

Firstly, his household is not super-wealthy but has fared well as average Danish citizens. Simon Kjær comes from humble middle-class family background. The center-back’s household is driven by a caring father (Jorn Kjær) who works hard to provide for his entire household.

Despite their average financial status, Kjær’s family cherishes each other with affection and closeness.

The defender will never forget the place where his career expedition all began, where his career began. He is a native of Horsens, a city that houses about 59,966 people in Denmark.

Would you like to know?… His place of origin is known for its cultural and entertainment events. There is a New Theatre in Horsens that serves as a cultural center and hosts over 200 events each year.

In the opinion of his father, our boy grew up in an era in which players were judged by their physical appearance rather than by their innate abilities. It was necessary for him to look big to prove he could handle himself on the pitch. Moreover, he needed to be connected to prominent personalities before he could become a full-fledged player, or at least that’s how the system saw it.

Interestingly enough, he did not seem to be bothered by the limitations that threatened his success. His parents enrolled him in a small-time football academy (Lund IF) near Horsens. The defender had outgrown the facilities and technical provisions at Lund IF when he turned 15.

Seeing his career on the line, his father made contact with the professional soccer club – FC Midtjylland – where he worked. Thankfully, the academy accepted Kjær so his dad wouldn’t lose his job. However, they never thought he had any talent for the game.

This young lad worked hard to improve himself instead of getting upset by their disapproval of his abilities. In 2016, Kjær shocked his entire team by winning the best player award at the French youth tournament.

It is notable that he graduated from FC Midtjylland’s academy as one of the first players. Midtjylland eventually had Kjær sign a 5-year contract with the club after rejecting several transfer offers. Consequently, in 2007, the athlete made his senior debut in the Superliga.

Several prominent clubs discussed his departure from his team after his outstanding performance. Kjær ended up signing a 5-year contract with Palermo in 2008 for €4 million. His career with the Italian club suffered a setback due to his difficulty adapting to the competitions in Palermo’s defense.

Even so, he did well in his first two appearances for the club to impress many fans with his abilities. Kjær secured his spot as Palermo’s center-back within such a short period of time.

In addition to Danish, Kjær speaks five languages, including English and Italian (which he learned in Palermo). As a child, he idolized John Terry and Fabio Cannavaro and supported Liverpool. His mother, a teacher, was not supportive of him becoming a footballer.

Kjær was able to earn his diploma despite not enjoying studying in school. Kjær married his long-term girlfriend, Camilla. The two have been together since they were fifteen. They eventually broke up, and Kjær began a relationship with Swedish national, Elina Gollert. Together, they have two children, Milas and Viggo.

They were married in the summer of 2017. Kjær talked about superstitions, saying: “I believe in them, but I don’t practice them. Before every game, I wear the right sock.”

A public declaration of affection for Steve McClaren was made by Kjær following the dismissal.
  • Kjær apologized for the firing and said he was happy to work with Steve McClaren. Even after Magath’s comment, Kjær retained his first-team spot for the rest of the 2010-11 season, though it was met with frustration as the club narrowly avoided relegation the previous year and he had come under fire for some lackluster performances.
  • Despite being sidelined on three occasions during the 2010–11 season, he played 34 games and scored once across all competitions.
  • Kjær revealed in the summer transfer window of 2011 that Magath told him he was free to leave that summer, and that he had fallen out of favor with Magath. Kjær played four games for Wolfsburg before leaving for Roma amid transfer speculation.

The 17 September 2011 match at Inter Milan ended in a 0–0 draw for Kjær’s Roma debut. On 16 October 2011, however, he received a straight red card for a foul on Cristian Brocchi in the 50th minute, resulting in a penalty that was converted by the opposition team.
  • Due to suspension and injury concerns, Kjær missed the next four matches after the match. The club won 2–1 against Leece on 20 November 2011, when he returned to the starting line-up.
  • His return was short-lived when he sustained an injury that kept him sidelined for a month. When he returned to the starting line-up for Roma’s match against Fiorentina in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia on 11 January 2012, he helped the team keep a clean sheet, in a 3–0 win.
  • However, in Roma’s 4–2 loss to Cagliari on 1 February 2012, Kjær was at fault for his poor performance and was largely disappointing.
  • After the game, Roma director Walter Sabatini hinted that the club might decide not to sign Kjær on a permanent basis because of his poor performance. Throughout the rest of the 2011–12 season, he remained in the first team.

  • Both he and his Danish compatriot Thomas Kahlenberg were praised by Manager Magath after the match. Kjær, however, found himself on the substitute bench in the first three months of the season.
  • Following Magath’s sacking, he returned to the pitch against Fortuna Düsseldorf on 27 October 2012, helping the club win 4-1.
  • The following season, Kjær returned to the first team, playing in the center back position under the new management of Lorenz-Günther Köstner and Dieter Hecking. In a 1–1 draw with Hamburger SV on 2 December 2012, he scored his first goal of the season.
  • On 19 January 2013, Kjær assisted on the club’s second goal of the game in a 2–0 win over Stuttgart. He was dropped from the starting line-up for the next three matches after his performance against Hannover 96 on 26 January 2013.

  • Against Werder Bremen two weeks later, on 20 April 2013, he set up Wolfsburg’s first goal before being substituted in the 54th minute due to an abductor problem.

Career

International Career

A 19-year-old Chris Gayle made his international debut in an ODI against the Indian Cricket Team at Toronto in Canada on 10 September 1999. He scored just 1 run batting at No. 4. He also bowled 6 overs that fetched 37 runs out of the 165 that India scored for victory.

Six months later, he played his first-ever Test match against Zimbabwe in Trinidad that started on 15 March 2000. He scored 33 in the first innings and a golden duck in the second. Gayle also picked up figures of 3/25 in the first innings. The home side eventually won the contest by 35 runs.

He made a name for himself in 2002 when he registered three centuries against India and joined the greats like Sir Vivian Richards and Brian Lara to the list of West Indians with more than 1,000 international runs in a calendar year. He then had an ordinary couple of years before 2005.

In 2005, he was picked to play the Test matches against South Africa. In the fourth Test, he scored his maiden triple century (317) to save the game and recorded the highest individual score against the South African cricket team at that time. However, his career was threatened after he had a few heart problems in the series that followed. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect causing a cardiac dysrhythmia. But given how strong the man he is mentally and physically, he came back to Test cricket soon and became only the fourth West Indian to carry his bat in a Test inning.

Gayle made his T20I debut against New Zealand on 16 February 2006 at Eden Park in Auckland. He opened the innings and scored just 10 runs off 12 balls. He returned with figures of 2/22 in his 4 overs. Interestingly, both sides could manage only 126 runs and the result was obtained after a ‘bowl-out’. The hosts won the game.

He then participated in the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 and made the tournament his own. He scored 150 runs more than any other batsman in the tournament and became the highest run-getter in the competition with 474 runs under his belt. Gayle also took 8 wickets in the series and was awarded the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award.

The Jamaican could not continue his form in the ICC ODI World Cup 2007 that followed. However, he was once again at his best when the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup was played a few months later. He recorded the first-ever T20 international hundred in the tournament. Thus, he became the first cricketer to score centuries in three different formats at the international level.

He was made captain of the West Indies side in the ICC T20 World Cup 2009 after getting criticized for playing in the IPL 2008 and missing an international series a few months before. Gayle scored a quickfire 88 in the opening game of the tournament and helped the Windies beat the mighty Australians. They lost in the semi-final to Sri Lanka.

In December 2009, he scored a 70-ball century in a Test match against Australia, which was the fifth-fastest Test century at that time. Eleven months later, he registered another triple century (333) and became just the fourth cricketer to score two triple centuries in Test cricket after Sir Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, and Virender Sehwag.

He also led West Indies in the 2010 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup. Another major point in his career came in the ICC T20 World Cup 2012. He scored a blazing knock of 75 runs against Australia in the semi-final of the tournament to power the Windies into the final. Gayle’s 75 was the highest individual score of the competition. The ‘Men in Maroon’ went on to win the coveted trophy for the first time 2 days later.

He was selected to play the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England. He was West Indies’s highest run-getter in the tournament with 96 runs in 3 innings. Fast forward to ICC T20 World Cup 2014, Chris Gayle was once again the leading run-getter for West Indies with 143 runs in 5 innings.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2015 was his fourth consecutive ICC ODI World Cup. The ‘legend’ was once again the leading run-getter in the tournament. He scored 340 runs in 6 innings. He scored his maiden ODI double hundred in this competition and became the first cricketer to do so in a World Cup. In the same innings, he shared a 372-run partnership with Marlon Samuels, which is the highest partnership in a World Cup game to date.

Gayle was once again a part of a successful campaign for West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 where they became the first team to win the title twice. Gayle scored 113 runs in 4 innings.

The Jamaican played his fifth consecutive ICC ODI World Cup in 2019. He had announced before the start of the tournament that he will retire from ODI cricket as soon as the competition gets over. He managed to score only 242 runs in 8 games and then all of a sudden decided to continue his ODI career. In the World Cup, he became the most capped player for West Indies with 455 appearances in international cricket.

He decided to take a break from cricket for a while in December 2019. His return date is unknown.

Hulk (Footballer) Biography, Age, Height, Ex Wife, Net Worth & Wiki

T20 Leagues Career

The hard-hitting batsman was signed by the Western Australia Warriors for the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League in 2009/10. The same year, he was also picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders to play in the second edition of the Indian Premier League. He had quite ordinary two seasons with them before switching to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011.

The switch proved to be quite beneficial for him as he emerged as the highest run-getter in the tournament with 608 runs to his name with 2 hundred and 3 fifties. He also hit the most number of sixes that season. Gayle hit 44 sixes while the second name on the list, MS Dhoni, had hit just 23 even after playing 4 more innings. He received five ‘Man of the Match’ awards in the season and was also named the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of IPL 2011.

In the BBL, he moved to Sydney Thunder for the following season. He was the highest run-getter in the series with 293 runs including a century. Then, he participated in the Bangladesh Premier League playing for the Barisal Burners and scored two centuries in the season.

He continued his exemplary form in the 2012 edition of the IPL as well. Gayle scored 733 runs in 14 matches and became the first cricketer to win two IPL Orange Caps. He won it in consecutive seasons. He also scored the maximum number of sixes (59) in the season once again. However, his best individual performance in T20 history came in the following season.

Chris Gayle’s highest score in IPL and in T20 cricket came against Pune Warriors India on 23 April 2013 when he scored 175 not out in just 66 balls. He broke multiple records in the innings including the fastest century in any form of competitive cricket (30 balls) and then the most number of sixes in a T20 inning (17). To add to it, he also took 2 wickets in the match.

He had fairly ordinary seasons of T20 cricket till 2016. He played for the Adelaide Striker in the Big Bash League in 2016 and equaled Yuvraj Singh’s record of the fastest fifty in T20 cricket (12 balls). The same year, he played for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League and managed only 103 runs in 5 matches. The following year, he played for the Karachi Kings and managed only 160 runs in 9 games.

In April 2017, Christopher Henry Gayle became the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. He had a turnaround year in IPL 2018 when the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) snapped him for his base price of INR 2 crore after being snubbed by his previous franchise all of a sudden. He scored 368 runs in 2018 and 490 runs in 2019 for KXIP.

FAQs

Why Chris Gayle is called Universe boss?

There are many reasons for knowing him as a Universe boss. First, Chris Gayle has scored a mammoth 11,737 runs in the T20 format, a record that will remain unbeaten for years to come. He has scored the highest number of centuries (21) in the format and the most number of the fifties (71). Another one of his records; he is one of four batsmen to have scored two Test triple hundreds, his top score being 333.

Why is Chris Gayle not retained in RCB?

Fitness could be one of the major reasons. No doubt Chris Gayle can single-handedly win matches on his day, however, his fitness has been going down over the years. Money could be the another reason. Retention was a process where both team management and the player have to come on a mutual understanding of being retained as well as the fees for being retained. For e.g RCB offered Virat Kohli Rs. 18 crores for retaining him whereas they offered Rs. 1.5 Cr for retaining Sarfaraz Khan. Might be Chris Gayle was asking more than what RCB could afford.

Can Chris Gayle break Rohit’s 264 run record in ODI?

There is a lot of difference between Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle. As you know Chris Gayle is much of a power hitter and a slogger, he easily hits boundaries and sixes. But power is not always the strength to play long innings and thus he gets out really quickly many times and not able to stand for a long. Now considering Rohit Sharma, he is a more classy player with power embedded in him as a natural strength. He adapts to the situation and plays according to it. Rohit does not get out as quickly. He uses his brain to get a great effect on his innings.

ControversiesEmma Stone apologized once again for “Aloha” after Sandra Oh made a joke about the film during the Golden Globes monologue. Oh, who co-hosted this year’s ceremony with Andy Samberg, quipped that “Crazy Rich Asians” was “the first studio film with an Asian American lead since ‘Ghost in the Shell’ and ‘Aloha.’ Stone portrayed a part-Hawaiian and part-Chinese woman in Cameron Crowe’s 2015 film “Aloha,” which garnered criticism for whitewashing an Asian role. “I’m sorry!” Stone was heard shouting from the audience.

Emily Jean “Emma” Stone was born on November 6, 1988, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her family’s surname was anglicized to Stone when her grandfather, who is of Swedish descent, migrated to the United States through Ellis Island. Stone began portraying when she was 11, with her first stage role in a youth theater production of The Wind in the Willows.

Throughout middle school, she performed in 16 productions with the theater, some of which included The Princess and the Pea, Alice in Wonderland, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She also played with the theater’s improvisational comedy troupe.

After attending an all-girls Catholic high school for one semester, Stone dropped out to focus on an acting career. To prove her parents to let her move to Los Angeles, the witty actress put together a PowerPoint presentation aptly titled “Project Hollywood,” set to Madonna’s song, “Hollywood.” Her ploy settled successfully, and in January 2004, at the age of 15, Stone moved with her mother to a Los Angeles apartment.

Stone soon began auditioning for roles, often standing out for her signature raspy voice. The fiery young actress was so dedicated that she dyed her childhood blonde locks a dark brown, hoping that the change would help her land more serious roles.
