The Colombian footballer Juan Guillermo Cuadrado Bello (born 26 May 1988) plays for Serie A club Juventus and the Colombia national team. His direct style of play, as well as his pace (both on and off the ball) as well as his dribbling skills, make him a highly sought-after player. Initially, he occupied a central midfield position, acting as a defensive midfielder, as well as a forward on occasion, but was eventually moved into a wider position, where he is now typically positioned, often performing as a right-sided winger, attacking midfielder, fullback or wing-back.

After beginning his career at Independiente Medellín, Cuadrado moved to Italy in 2009 to join Udinese. Despite being used sparingly at the club, he was loaned out to Lecce for the 2011–12 season, where his performances earned him a transfer to Fiorentina despite relegation from Serie A. After signing with Chelsea in February 2015, he was loaned out to Juventus for successive seasons, where he won successive titles in Serie A and Coppa Italia. In 2017, he joined the club permanently, and over the following two seasons, he won two more consecutive league titles and a Supercoppa Italiana.

Life Journey

In this biography, we provide you with information about Juan Cuadrado’s Childhood Story, Early Life, Parents – Marcela Bello Guerrero (Mother) and Guillermo Cuadrado (Father), Family, Wife, Children, Net Worth, Lifestyle, and Personal Life.

We analyze Juan Cuadrado’s history in a nutshell. It is the story of Pacey Colombian football player known as “Vespa.” Yes, everyone knows he is a versatile player who loves Juventus and declines other juicy Chinese offers.

Although Juan Cuadrado’s biography is highly acclaimed, it is not widely known among soccer fans. Let us now begin without further ado.

Juan Cuadrado Family Background And Early Life Struggles

On the 26th of May 1988, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado Bello was born in Necocli, Colombia.

In English, Juan Cuadrado is translated as John Square. He was born to Marcela Bello Guerrero, his mother (a housekeeper), and the late Mr. Guillermo Cuadrado, his father (a truck driver). A native of Tumaco, Columbia, Juan was raised there. Growing up, he was a Manchester United fan.

Father’s Death At Early Age

When Juan Cuadrado was just four years old, his father, Guillermo, was murdered by an armed gang.

When his truck driver’s dad was shot, poor Cuadrado hid under the bed as ordered by his mother. Consequently, his mother, Marcela, had to raise him alone with great courage. The murderers of Guillermo were never brought to justice.

His father’s death was followed by civilian massacres linked to the country’s decades-old civil war. Both Juan and his mother were later separated when she was hired to manage an ice cream shop. Her son was left with the teachers at his football school and with his grandmother, and she sent him food that she purchased with her wages.

Marcela also sold bananas after work in order to provide food for her family and save money for her son’s future. Juan would also assist his mother in packing bananas after school to make ends meet. Juan enjoyed putting special export stickers on bananas while his mother Marcela struggled to earn enough money to provide for her family. It was her responsibility to wash and pack the fruits.

He may have grown up faster as a result of the death of his father. In the early 1990s, when violence among notorious Colombian drug gangs was rife, Juan’s childhood friends say football was an escape from the harsh realities of life. Juan’s mother once stated in an interview that he had to be a perfect student in order to play football, which they viewed as a means of escape from poverty.

Juan Cuadrado’s Rise To Fame

Juan experienced a miracle when he was 13 years old. Upon being scouted by Athletico Uraba as a future soccer star, he relocated 300 miles away from home. Cuadrado began his club career at Atlético Uraba, where he primarily played as a forward.

Cuadrado, however, took on a midfield role as a recommendation of club founder Nelson Gallego. Cuadrado’s confidence grew to such a high level that he rose above all other youth football ranks. As a result, he was sent to Colombia’s second-division club Rionegro, where he showed even more of his potential as a world-class player.

He was eventually signed by Medellin in 2008, which enabled him to make the transition to European football. Cuadrado lived with his family in Florence as of July 2014. As the saying goes, the rest is history.

Life Journey

Woodgram presents the Full Story of a Football Genius who is known as “Meunier”. In Thomas Meunier’s Childhood Story, you will discover a full account of notable events from his earliest years up to the present day.

His family background, life story before fame, rise to fame, relationship, and personal life are examined. His offensive moves are well known.

Few, however, consider Thomas Meunier’s biography, which is quite interesting. Without further ado, let’s begin.

Thomas Meunier was born on the 12th of September 1991 in Sainte-Ode, Belgium. His mother Veronique Meunier (a nurse) and his father (an electrician who played amateur football at the time) had two children together. At his birthplace in Sainte-Ode, Meunier grew up with an older sister with whom he spent his entire childhood.

In his sports-loving family, Meunier was drawn to football for sheer fun and began training with his hometown team, RUS Sainte-Ode, at the age of 5. But Meunier’s father wanted him to take up the sport seriously and, by extension, see that he became a professional. When his parents divorced when he was 12, he was hesitant to take football seriously until he had compelling reasons to do so.

Meunier and his older sister chose to live with their mother after their separation, who did all she could to take care of them. From RUS Sainte-Ode, where he spent six years, the rising footballer made his way to RUS Givry for a two-year stint. From there, he joined the Standard Liege youth system.

Meunier spent two years at Standard Liege before his dreams of playing professional football were dashed. So Meunier was released, something he accepted without a shred of resistance but with glee and total surrender of his free will.

The development, however, didn’t go well with Meunier’s parents, particularly his father, who became disappointed in the turnout or events and temporarily distanced himself from Meunier. Meunier’s parents were not pleased with the development, particularly his father, who felt disappointed in the outcome and decided to temporarily distance himself from Meunier.

You can imagine how my father felt. We stopped talking about football. That was a problem because football was our life. He was so disappointed. I had expressed his passion for football through me, so when my dream fell apart, he did too”. Meunier explained.

Meunier’s mother, however, was not one to enjoy her son’s release knowing full well that he had grown up to become a good football player. She, therefore, made a career-defining call to the coach of a small club called Virton, begging him to give Meunier a tryout.

The football prodigy turned out for the trial match and contributed 10 goals to his team’s 15-3 victory. Meunier spent three years at Vitron, where he scored awesome goals, which his fast-growing fanbase captured and uploaded to YouTube.

It wasn’t long before he was known as “that guy in the third division who scores crazy goals”. This led to him being pursued by big teams, including Club Brugge, which acquired his services in 2011. Meunier is still single and has been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, who is now his baby mama, Deborah Panzokou.

In high school, they met and started dating. Deborah, however, is a halfbreed born to Congolese and Sicilian parents. Their union has resulted in the birth of two children — a boy named Landry (born 7th November 2015) and a girl conceived in April 2018.

Meunier is one among a handful of football players who consider the sport as a game of passion and not necessarily a job. Despite the fact that he is a football genius who describes himself as “a normal player in a club with an extraordinary dimension” he admits that he is indecisive and not well-organized off the pitch.

Nonetheless, he makes himself available to receive love from fans with whom he signs autographs and converses in English, French, and Dutch. Meunier enjoys listening to electronic music and French rap. As well as spending time with friends and family, he enjoys reading.

Meunier idolized Brazil World Cup winner Ronaldo as a child, saying: “He develops, like me, at the center forward position. I liked the way he plays and his dribbling.”. Originally, he was cited as supporting Anderlecht, but this was later proven incorrect.

He revealed that he didn’t have an easy childhood, his parents divorced when he was a teenager and he moved in with his mother and sister. As a student at Virton, Meunier worked part-time at a car factory and as a postman, earning a diploma for finishing school. He also loves art outside of football. He opened a catering business in Bastogne and is considering becoming a baker after his football career is over.

Meunier is fluent in both English and Dutch in addition to French. After being convicted of speeding in November 2012, Meunier was fined €120 and given a 13-day driving ban. Meunier started taking lessons again soon after his conviction.

  • Club Brugge had just missed out on the transfers of Dalibor Veselinovi* and Jelle Van Damme a few days earlier, so it wanted to ensure Meunier wouldn’t become the third near miss.

  • Meunier was given the number 19 shirt ahead of the new season.

  • After his absence, he returned to action on 17 November 2012 as a second–half substitute in a 6–2 victory over Waasland-Beveren.
  • Upon his return, Meunier began playing in the right-back position, which he said was no problem at all. Toward the end of January, he again suffered an injury and missed the month of March.
  • Thomas Meunier returned to the first team from injury and played in the right-back position for the remainder of the season. Meunier ended the 2012–13 season with 28 appearances and four goals across all competitions.
  • An injury to Meunier’s groin sidelined him until September of the 2013-14 season. Meunier quickly returned to the first team after returning from injury, regaining his right-back position and helping the team keep a clean sheet four times between 14 September 2013 and 5 October 2013.
  • Bundesliga side Wolfsburg showed interest in his performance but he remained at the club throughout the January transfer window.
  • In a 5–2 victory over OH Leuven on 18 February 2014, he scored his first goal for the club. He then scored twice in a 2–0 win over Cercle Brugge on 16 March 2014.
  • A Meunier own goal cost the club the title in their 1–0 loss against Anderlecht on 4 May 2014.

  • Toward the end of the season, Meunier suffered two injuries. Even so, he played every minute of the 2015 Belgian Cup Final against rivals RSC Anderlecht, which ended in a 2–1 win for Club Brugge, enabling the club to win its first Belgian Cup since 2007.
  • At the end of the 2014–15 season, Meunier made 46 appearances and scored twice across all competitions. Meunier was awarded the title of Footballer of the Year for his achievements.

  • Then he scored again in a 3–2 loss against Genk, after setting up two goals in a 6–0 win over Westerlo. Toward the end of the season, he scored two more goals against Genk and Gent and helped the club win the league title.
  • Despite missing two games in the 2015–16 season, Meunier went on to make 42 appearances and score six goals.
  • Meunier was a transfer target for several clubs during the 2016 summer transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain leading the chase to sign him.
  • Early in June, he made it clear that he would stay with the club. Although he claimed he intended to stay at Club Brugge, he continued to be a transfer target.
  • At Club Brugge in 2011, Meunier initially played as a striker or right winger before being transformed into a right-back by head coach Juan Carlos Garrido, Georges Leekens, and Michel Preud’homme due to the lack of players at that position following the injuries to teammates Davy De Fauw and Tom Høgli, and the departure of Carl Hoefkens.

Paris Saint-Germain

  • Meunier joined Paris Saint-Germain on 3 July 2016, signing a four-year deal with the club that would bind him to the club until 30 June 2020.

  • Serge Aurier competed with Meunier throughout the season, and due to Aurier’s excellent performances, Meunier often appeared on the substitutes’ bench.
  • The right-back returned to the first team on 1 October after suffering a knee injury in late September, starting in the right-back position and scoring a goal in a 2–0 victory over Bordeaux in the league at home.
  • In PSG’s 2–1 away win over Basel in a 2016–17 UEFA Champions League Group A match, Meunier assisted Blaise Matuidi’s goal and scored the winning goal with a stunning side-footed curling volley; it was Meunier’s first competitive goal for PSG. He was named a member of the UEFA Team of the Week for his excellent performance.
  • In a 5–0 win over Lorient on 21 December 2016, Meunier scored his first league goal for the club. His next two months were marred by injuries on two separate occasions.
  • In spite of this, Meunier received more playing time as a right-back throughout January 2017 since Aurier had to compete in the finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
  • The following month, he set up Edinson Cavani’s goal in a 4–0 win over Barcelona in the first leg of the last 16 of the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League.
  • Meunier and Aurier competed for a first-team place at the end of the 2016-17 season. He sustained further injuries.
  • Even though he was a part of both the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France campaigns, Meunier did not play in both finals; he sat on the substitute bench for the former and missed the latter because of an injury.
  • In the 2016–17 season, he made 36 appearances and scored twice across all competitions.
  • During the summer transfer window of 2017, Meunier was the subject of a transfer request when Chelsea attempted to sign him on the transfer window deadline day but was rejected by PSG.
  • At the start of the 2017-18 season, Meunier made his competitive debut, starting as the right defender against AS Monaco in the 2017 Trophée des Champions.
  • As a result of Dani Alves’ arrival at Tottenham Hostpur, Aurier still had to compete for the right-back position after leaving Tottenham.
  • Meunier had been an unused substitute in PSG’s previous two league matches (against Guingamp and Toulouse) when he came on to replace Dani Alves and set up Edinson Cavani’s goal in a 3–0 win over Saint-Étienne on 25 August 2017.
  • His first goal of the season for the club did not come until 30 September 2017 when the club beat Bordeaux 6–2.
  • Meunier scored both PSG goals in a 2–1 win over Dijon on 14 October 2017. Despite getting injured while playing for the national team, he played twice in the league between late October and mid-December.
  • Meunier started in the right-back position on 13 December 2017 and assisted two goals, in a 4–2 victory over RC Strasbourg.
  • Then, on 30 January 2018, Meunier scored yet again in the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue, in a 3–2 win over Stade Rennais.
  • In a 5–0 win over FC Metz on 10 March 2018, he scored his fourth goal of the season. When Alves was injured and suspended towards the end of the 2017–18 season, he regained his right-back position in several matches.
  • A month before, he came off the bench in PSG’s 2–0 victory over Les Herbiers VF to win the Coupe de France. After beating Monaco on 15 April 2018, Meunier also won his first league title at PSG. • On 18 September 2019, he scored a goal in a 3–0 win over Real Madrid in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League group stage.
  • The 4 March 2020 match was his last game for Paris Saint-Germain, and it was a 5-1 win over Lyon in the 2019–20 Coupe de France semi-final.

He subsequently began his Serie A career with Napoli, scoring a contentious goal after only seven minutes against Fiorentina, with replays showing the ball falling on the line. Cavani also scored in his home debut against Bari before adding a late winner against Sampdoria, making him the first Napoli player to score in four competitive matches.

Cavani came in as a late substitution with 30 minutes remaining in Napoli’s 1-0 loss to Cesena on September 26. After assisting on the equaliser, he went on to score two more goals, bringing the final score to 4-1. As a result, Cavani now shares the league scoring lead with Internazionale’s Samuel Eto’o.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick revealed on May 22, 2022, that Cavani will be departing the club when his contract ends at the conclusion of the season.

International Career

Youth

Cavani was chosen to play for Uruguay’s national under-20 squad in the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay in January 2007. He ended the tournament as the competition’s leading scorer, with seven goals in nine games, helping Uruguay finish third and win a spot in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Senior

2010 World Cup and 2011 Copa América

Cavani earned his first senior debut for Uruguay, scoring in a 2-2 tie with Colombia on February 6, 2008. On the counterattack from a corner, he scored from his own area.

Cavani set up Luis Suárez’s goal in Uruguay’s 1-0 triumph against Mexico in the last group stage match of the 2010 World Cup on June 22, 2010. Uruguay topped Group A and went to the round of 16. He scored against Germany in the third-place match on July 10, 2010, tying the score at 1-1; Germany went on to win 3-2.

On October 8, 2010, he scored his first international hat-trick against Indonesia in a 7-1 triumph in Jakarta, in which Luis Suárez also scored a hat-trick.

Cavani was a member of Uruguay’s team for the 2011 Copa América in Argentina. He started the first two group games, but a knee injury suffered in the second game against Chile forced him to miss the final. In the final, he came in after 63 minutes to replace lvaro Pereira and was involved in his team’s last goal as Uruguay defeated Paraguay 3-0 to win a record 15th title.

2012 Olympics

Cavani was one of three over-age players chosen by Uruguay for the Summer Olympics in 2012. Cavani equalised in the semi-finals of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup against the hosts and eventual champions Brazil, who won 2-1. He levelled twice against Italy in the third-place match, his second goal coming from a free kick, forcing the game to penalties. Despite Cavani’s penalty kick, Uruguay lost; he was chosen man of the match for his effort.

Cavani scored the game-winning goal in Uruguay’s 5-0 triumph against Jordan in the 2014 World Cup play-off on November 13, 2013. Cavani opened the goal in their opening group game of the championships, against Costa Rica, at Fortaleza, with a penalty after Diego Lugano was brought down. Uruguay, on the other hand, finally fell 3-1.  Colombia eliminated Uruguay in the round of 16 on June 28, 2014, with a 2-0 victory.

Post World Cup

With Suárez sidelined for the duration of the tournament, Cavani was Uruguay’s indisputable starting at the 2015 Copa América in Chile. Cavani was sent off for two bookings in the quarter-finals against the hosts at the Estadio Nacional: the first for a foul on Arturo Vidal, and the second for swiping at Gonzalo Jara’s face after Jara had jabbed him in the buttocks.

The event gained virtually instantaneous and extensive worldwide publicity in newspapers and on the internet, primarily in Cavani’s defence. Articles, editorials, blogs, memes, and cartoons were all widely distributed. The Australian tabloids drew parallels to what they called “Hopoate,” a similar infamous on-field anus-poking event from rugby.

China, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States also provided extensive worldwide coverage of the tragedy. Goal.com, Business Insider, ESPNFC, and Bleacher Report were among the websites that provided coverage. The World Game, The Huffington Post, and Dirty Tackle are some of the sites I’ve read.

Teammate Jorge Fucile was eventually ejected, and holders Uruguay were defeated 1-0. Cavani also competed in the Copa América Centenario the following year, however, he went scoreless as Uruguay were ousted in the first round.

Uruguay competed in the China Cup in 2018. Cavani led Uruguay to the trophy by scoring the game-winning goal against Wales in the final.

2018 World Cup

Cavani concluded the CONMEBOL 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying as the leading scorer, with ten goals. Cavani was a member of Uruguay’s side that won the China Cup in March 2018. He scored in the 2-0 semi-final victory against the Czech Republic, and he scored the lone goal in the final against Wales, his 100th cap.

Cavani scored the game-winning goal in Uruguay’s 3-0 triumph against hosts Russia in the last group game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on June 25. Cavani subsequently went on to score both of Uruguay’s goals against Portugal in a 2-1 Round of 16 triumphs on 30 June, despite being replaced in the second half with an apparent hamstring injury.

2019 Copa America

Cavani was included in Uruguay’s final 23-man roster for the 2019 Copa América in Brazil in March 2019. On June 16, Cavani scored “an incredible bicycle-kick” in a 4-0 win over Ecuador in the team’s first Copa América group match; it was his first goal in the Copa América.

On June 29, he had a goal rejected by VAR for offside in regular time in the quarter-finals against Peru; after a 0-0 tie, the match went to a penalty shoot-out. Despite Cavani’s successful penalty attempt, Peru won the shootout 5-4, eliminating Uruguay from the competition.

Crispus Attucks Bio, High School, Age, Park, Quotes, Wiki & Net Worth

Crispus Attucks was an American sailor and a stevedore who is believed to be the first person killed during the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770. He has been made into a folk hero as the first-ever American to sacrifice his own life during the American Revolution. He is considered a symbol of American patriotism and was elevated to the status of an icon of the anti-slavery movement in the mid-19th century. While the exact details about his family and life are not known, it is believed that he was born to an African-born slave and a Natick Native American. He was probably an escaped slave who went on to rebuild his life as a successful free man-a rarity in the 18th century when slavery was rampant in America and Africans were considered properties of the white men.

On March 5, 1770, he led a group of people in a protest against a British soldier who had hurt a young barber’s apprentice. The feud became intense and a troop of British soldiers opened fire on Attucks and his men, killing a few and injuring many. Attucks was the first man to die. This incident proved to be a major catalyst in the early stages of the American Revolution. Following his death, he was lauded by the supporters of the ‘abolitionist movement’ and was widely recognized as an African-American man who played a significant role in shaping America’s history.

Crispus Attucks Family, Education & More

Crispus Attucks Born into slavery around 1723, Attucks was believed to be the son of Prince Yonger, a slave shipped to America from Africa, and Nancy Attucks, a Natick Indian. Little is known about Attucks’ life or his family, who reputedly resided in a town just outside of Boston. What has been pieced together paints a picture of a young man who showed an early skill for buying and trading goods? He seemed unafraid of the consequences of escaping the bonds of slavery. Historians have theorized that Attucks was the focus of an advertisement in a 1750 edition of the Boston Gazette in which a white landowner offered to pay 10 pounds for the return of a young runaway slave.

Crispus Attucks, “Ran away from his Master, William Brown of Framingham, on the 30th of Sept. last, a Molatto Fellow, about 27 Years of age, named Crispus, 6 Feet two Inches high, short curled Hair,” the advertisement read. Attucks, however, managed to escape for good, spending the next two decades on trading ships and whaling vessels coming in and out of Boston. He also found work as a rope maker.

Crispus Attucks High School

Crispus Attucks High School (Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School) of the Indianapolis Public Schools in Indianapolis, in the U.S. state of Indiana, is named for Crispus Attucks, an American patriot killed during what became known as the Boston Massacre. The school was built near Indiana Avenue northwest of downtown Indianapolis and opened on September 12, 1927, when it was the only public high school in the city designated specifically for African Americans. Despite the passage of federal and state school assimilation laws, Attucks was the city’s only high school with a single-race student body in 1953, largely due to residential discrimination, and remained a restricted school until in 1971 (although some historians suggested that it occurred in 1968). Attucks was converted to a junior high school in 1986, due to declining enrollment, and a middle school in 1993. It became a medical magnet high school in 2006, partially due to the school’s proximity to the campus of the Indiana University School of Medicine and its associated hospitals.

The red-brick building with terra-cotta and limestone detailing covers a two-square-block area and was built in three phases. A three-story main building, designed by local architects Merritt Harrison and Llewellyn A. Turnock, was constructed in 1927. A three-story addition and a two-story gymnasium were built in 1938. A newer, two-story gymnasium was constructed in 1966. The main building and the 1938 addition reflect Collegiate Gothic (or Tudor Revival) and Classical Revival styles of architecture. The high school was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. During its early years, Crispus Attucks was known for its excellence in academics, in addition to its successful athletic teams, especially its basketball program.

The high school also became a gathering place and a source of pride for the city’s African American community. In 1955 the Attucks Tigers won the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s state basketball championship, becoming the first all-black school in the nation to win a state title. In 1956 the team became first state champions in IHSAA history to complete a season undefeated since the state basketball tournament began in 1911. Crispus Attucks also won the IHSAA state basketball championship in 1959, and in 2017 was the IHSAA’s Class 3-A basketball champion.

How did Crispus Attucks die
How did Crispus Attucks die

Prior to the Boston Massacre

  • In 1750, a slave owner, William Brown announced that he would pay an award of ten pounds to whoever found his runaway slave, Crispus, whom he described in an advertisement. This piece of information makes it complicated for historians to ascertain his status during the Boston massacre. While many suggest that he was the runaway black slave in question, the others believe that he was already a free man by then.
  • The ones who believe he was a free man at the time of the Boston Massacre state that he was a sailor and a dock worker. He spent a long time of his life working as a stevedore along the Atlantic seaboard.
  • Others believe that he went by the name of “Michael Johnson” to live a free life under disguise and had just returned from the Bahamas in early 1770. He was supposed to leave for another trip for North Carolina when the Boston incident happened.

The Boston Massacre

  • In 1768, British soldiers came to Boston to control the colonial unrest which had erupted after the introduction of the ‘Stamp Act’ and the ‘Townshend Acts’. But the presence of troops made things worse and tensions started to pile up.
  • It was on March 5, 1770, when the unfortunate Boston Massacre happened. It started with an allegation from a boy who stated that a sentry had not paid a barber his bill. The boy was reprimanded severely just for asking for the payment. The colonists and the British soldiers of the 29th Regiment of Foot gathered where the confrontation was taking place and tensions started to rise.
  • Attucks was one of the colonists who gathered at the place. It is suggested that they had wooden pieces with them. Some sources state that the troops were attacked with clubs by the mob—led by Attucks—following which they opened fire. However, another eyewitness stated that Attucks was simply leaning on a wooden pole when the troops fired shots.
  • Attucks was among the five colonists who died that day, taking two bullets in the chest. He is believed to have been the first of the five people to die that day. There were also six more colonists who were severely injured due to the shooting.
  • The autopsy of Attucks’ body was done by the county coroners, Robert Pierpoint and Thomas Crafts Jr., and afterward, it was carried to Faneuil Hall where it was kept for three more days.

  • Crispus Attucks was a slave owned by William Brown in Framingham, Massachusetts until 1750 when he escaped at the age of 27.
  • When Crispus Attucks escaped William Brown put an advertisement in the Boston Gazette for his return. It read ‘a Molatto fellow, about 27 years of age, named Crispus, 6’2″ high, etc,’ Crispus was never recaptured by William Brown.
  • Crispus Attucks used the name Michael Johnson to help with his escape from William Brown.
  • For the first 10 years after escaping slavery Crispus Attucks worked as a whaler aboard whaling ships.
  • For the next 10 years, Crispus Attucks worked as a rope maker and as a sea merchant.
  • While working as a rope maker and sea merchant the tensions began to rise in Boston over the occupation by British soldiers.
  • Several fights broke out between Bostonians, sailors and the British soldiers leading up to the Boston Massacre.
  • On March 5th, 1770 a group of sailors, including Crispus Attucks, protested against the British in front of the customs house in Boston. As the approximately 50 protestors advanced towards the British they repeated the words: “Don’t be afraid.”
  • As the group of sailors approached the soldiers the soldiers opened fire. The first person killed was Crispus Attucks. He was shot in the chest by Hugh Montgomery.
  • Four others were killed by the British soldiers including Samuel Gray, Patrick Carr, James Caldwell, and Samuel Maverick.
  • This incident became known as the Boston Massacre.
  • The funeral for the victims of the Boston Massacre was attended by approximately 10,000 people.
  • At trial, most of the soldiers at the Boston Massacre were found not guilty. Hugh Montgomery, the man who killed Crispus Attucks, was found guilty of manslaughter. Matthew Killroy was also found guilty of manslaughter. The rest were found not guilty because the jury decided the soldiers were provoked.
  • In 1858 abolitionists celebrated a Crispus Attucks Day in his honor.
  • A monument of the Boston Massacre was erected in 1888 at Boston Common.
  • A silver dollar was issued in 1998 by the United States government to honor the birth of Crispus Attucks and the black Revolutionary War patriots (there were roughly 5000).
