Rajasthan Royals
In 2009, Kundra and Shetty invested in the Indian Premier League cricket team Rajasthan Royals using an offshore company based in Mauritius as the vehicle for doing so. The couple hoped to use Shetty’s image and status as a “global brand” as a means of boosting the image of the team through merchandising and media exposure, as well as attracting sponsors. The legality of the investment was questioned by departments of the Government of India.

In June 2013, Kundra was questioned by Delhi Police with regard to the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case, which had involved the arrest of some Rajasthan Royals players. Kundra admitted that he had bet on his own team and lost huge amounts in doing so. In 2018, Kundra denied that he had done anything wrong and said that he was to appeal the ban at the Supreme Court of India. Li Shufu Professional Career

Li established Geely in November 1986; it is currently China’s second-largest privately owned automaker.

In a deal of US$1.8 billion, Geely and American automaker Ford Motor Company agreed to buy Swedish automaker Volvo Cars on March 28, 2010. It was the biggest overseas purchase made by a Chinese automobile maker. Li had a goal of increasing sales to 600,000 by 2015 in the domestic market, along with $900 million in operating capital from Geely and a promise to construct a Volvo facility in China.

Li was listed as the 63rd richest person in mainland China in 2013 by Hurun Report, with a net worth of US$2.6 billion. Li reportedly became Daimler’s top shareholder in 2018 according to the Financial Times, owning a 9.7% stake in the German manufacturer.

Li declared in November 2018 that he and the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. had reached an agreement for the construction of a new line of supersonic bullet trains. The trains are supposed to run on the newly created technology.

Li stated: “You cannot purchase core technologies. You become more dependent when you utilise other people’s technologies more frequently. We must innovate independently. Although the trip will be challenging, the future seems bright.”

Li was attempting to establish a worldwide carmaker by merging Geely with Volvo Cars in March 2020. Although they are both owned by Li’s investment company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Volvo and Geely are run separately.

Li is in talks with Volvo Cars to merge with Geely in March 2020 as part of his plan to establish China’s first international automaker. Volvo and Geely are both subsidiaries of Mr Li’s investment company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, but they are run independently. With a 9.7% interest in the German automaker, Li reportedly became Daimler’s top shareholder in 2018, according to the Financial Times.

On March 28, 2010, Geely and Ford Motor Company agreed to a purchase price of US$1.8 billion for Volvo Cars. It was the biggest overseas acquisition made by a Chinese automaker. Li set a goal of increasing domestic market sales to 600,000 by 2015 along with a commitment to developing a Volvo factory in China and $900 million in operating capital from Geely.

Guangzhou F.C. of China’s Jia B League was sponsored in 2001 by Geely Group. Although Li stopped supporting football at the end of the 2001 China Jia B League Match Fixing, he was cited as saying, “We won’t come back until the Chinese football atmosphere gets improved.”

Li Shufu Ownerships

Guangzhou F.C. of China’s Jia B League was sponsored in 2001 by Geely Group. Li, however, terminated his engagement in football sponsorship at the conclusion of the 2001 China Jia B League Match Fixing, and he was cited as saying, “We won’t come back until the Chinese football atmosphere gets better.”

Li has attacked the joint venture arrangement used in the Chinese automobile sector since it results in significant profits for international Tier 1 supplier and OEMs at the price of innovation, quality, and technological advancement on the part of Chinese automotive OEMs.

According to Li, this has caused domestic automotive OEMs to become complacent because they rely on the profits from joint ventures with foreign partners rather than pushing their own businesses to hire top talent and make improvements because they know they will own half of the joint ventures run with successful foreign manufacturers that produce sizable amounts of sales. He has previously spoken in favour of state-owned automakers joining up with for-profit businesses.

Early life

Lee Kun-hee was born in Daegu on January 9, 1942, when Korea was still under Japanese rule. He was Lee Byung-third Chul’s child and the founder of the Samsung business, which began as a fruit and dried fish exporter. Later, he graduated with a degree in economics from Japan’s prestigious Waseda University. He attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., to study for a master’s program in business, but he did not graduate.

Lee was a keen sportsman who enjoyed training dogs, racing sports cars on a closed track, and riding horses. He also managed a professional baseball club and participated in amateur sports while serving as president of the Korean Amateur Wrestling Association.

Professional Career

Lee began working for Samsung in 1968, a company that included financial services, equipment, chemicals, and electronics. He served as his father’s quiet heir apparent, who quietly declined to name his two older sons as his heirs and maintained complete control over the corporation.

Lee took over as chairman of Samsung upon the death of his father in 1987, but he delegated control to corporate staff. However, Lee began a radical top-down revolution in June 1993 to transform Samsung—the biggest Asian corporation outside of Japan—and make it competitive on the global stage.

He told every employee that, by international standards, Samsung was “second rate” and urged them to “change everything but your family.” Lee ascribed Samsung’s failings to fundamental flaws in Korean culture, such as a rote-learning-focused educational system and an authoritarian management style.

The drastic changes he ordered. Lee referred to Samsung’s approach as “new management,” which requires that employees notify their superiors when they make mistakes. It also emphasized product quality over quantity, elevated women to high leadership positions, and opposed bureaucratic procedures.

From a reserved figurehead to a confident CEO, Lee propelled Samsung into a number of new ventures, including the production of automobiles. He set a goal to manufacture 20% of Samsung’s products outside of South Korea by the year 2000, helped by an increase in investment. He thus constructed semiconductor operations in Austin, Texas, and Suzhou, China, as well as an electronics manufacturing facility in Wynyard, England.

Additionally, he purchased businesses including the German Rollei Camera, the Japanese Lux, and the American computer firm AST Research. In 1995, the entire group’s revenues exceeded $87 billion, or around 19% of South Korea’s GDP, making Samsung Electronics the largest supplier of memory chips in the world by 1996.

Lee Kun-Hee Controversies

Lee was one of 11 well-known South Korean businessmen embroiled in a political controversy involving donations to former president Roh Tae Woo in 1996. Despite being common in South Korea, a judge determined that these payments constituted bribery. Lee was given a two-year prison term in August 1996, but it was suspended for three years.

Later, President pardoned him. Samsung was one of the largest companies in the world at the beginning of the twenty-first century because Lee successfully led the company through the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s.

However, Lee was charged with breach of trust and tax evasion in April 2008, and soon after that, he resigned from his position as chairman of Samsung. He was found guilty of tax evasion in July, and as a result, he was given a three-year prison sentence with a suspended sentence and was fined about $80 million. In December 2009, Lee received a pardon from the South Korean government.

Executives at Samsung Group appointed Lee to lead Samsung Electronics, the organization’s largest subsidiary, in March 2010. Later on in the year, he came back to lead the Samsung Group. However, he had a heart attack in 2014 that rendered him helpless. Lee kept his position, but his son Lee Jae-Yong took over as the de facto head of the Samsung Group. It was revealed in 2018 that the senior Lee was once more under investigation for tax evasion.

Significant Areas of Operation

Medical Education

Over the past few years, HCA Healthcare has grown to be a key supplier of clinical and medical education. With 56 teaching hospitals spread over 14 states, mostly in areas where there aren’t many programs for training doctors, it is the largest supporter of graduate medical education in the United States.

A number of cutting-edge nursing simulation training facilities are owned and operated by the firm, which also includes Mercy School of Nursing and Research College of Nursing. Controlling ownership in Galen College of Nursing, which has five campuses and grants bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in nursing, was acquired by the company in the beginning of 2020.

Stroke Care

Around 50,000 stroke patients are treated by HCA Healthcare every year at 31 reputable comprehensive stroke facilities. As of November 2019, the typical wait time between a patient’s arrival and obtaining necessary medication was 42 minutes, which was 30% quicker than the national average.

Maternal Safety

In 2019, more than 219,000 newborns, or almost one out of every 17 born in the United States, are delivered by HCA Healthcare. 2019 saw a decrease in maternal mortality at HCA Healthcare hospitals to around half the national average. HCA Healthcare collaborates on a national level with March of Dimes.

Workforce Education and Support

HCA Healthcare invests in leadership and workforce education programs for its approximately 280,000 workers and affiliates, including 98,000 registered nurses and 46,000 doctors (2020). Through its voucher program, HCA invested $70.8 million in 2019 to help students with their student loans, pay for their tuition, and support their certifications.

The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund provides financial assistance to employees who are struggling because of a natural disaster, illness, injury, domestic violence, the loss of a loved one, or another unforeseen tragedy. In 2019, the fund gave away $7.7 million, and since 2005, it has helped out with $56 million.

HCA hospital employees, including nurses, raised concerns about the lack of PPE during the COVID-19 outbreak in the US. Despite the fact that the issue of the absence of PPE at work had been addressed, there was a backlash against HCA in 2020 after two nurses, Celia Yap-Banago and Rosa Luna, who had died from coronavirus and worked at HCA hospitals in Kansas City and California, respectively, passed away.

According to a May 2020 Intercept investigation, HCA engaged union-busting professionals at a rate of $400 per hour to disperse planned union demonstrations by nurses in North Carolina who were protesting staff reductions, poor communication, and a lack of protective equipment.

Thomas Frist Jr Controversies

Former workers of HCA who claimed that the business had used improper Medicare billing techniques brought lawsuits against the company in 1993. A growing body of evidence that the company “had kept two sets of books, one to show the government and one with actual expenses listed” led the Columbia/HCA board of directors.

It was to force Rick Scott to resign as chairman and CEO in 1997, as a federal investigation by the FBI, the IRS, and the Department of Health and Human Services were just getting started. As CEO once more in 1997, Thomas Frist, a co-founder of HCA and the sibling of U.S. Senator Bill Frist, enlisted the aid of a longtime friend and coworker Jack O. Bovender, Jr. to assist him to turn the business around.

After a lengthy investigation by the federal government, “the government received a total of almost $2 billion in criminal fines and civil penalties for systematically cheating federal health care programs” in 2003. In addition to admitting to routinely overcharging the government, Columbia/HCA entered a guilty plea to 14 offences. The federal inquiry has been referred to as the most extensive and expensive investigation into healthcare fraud in American history.
