Cillian Murphy was born in Douglas, County Cork, Ireland on May 25, 1976. His father, who worked for the Irish Department of Education, and his mother, a French teacher, reared him in Ballintemple, Cork. Murphy began playing music and creating songs when he was ten years old.
He did well academically while attending the Catholic high school Presentation Brothers College, although he was frequently in trouble.
