  • On 7 October 2012, Cornelius was named player of the month in the Danish Superliga. He scored the final goal in a 3–2 win against FC Nordsj*lland on 15 April. This gave FCK a 10-point advantage in the league over number 2 and was crucial to Copenhagen winning the title.
  • Despite playing only one full season in the first team, Cornelius quickly became one of the most popular players of the club, with his name and number being the most popular print on the club’s official shirts, selling around 40% of all prints.

Cardiff City

  • Cardiff City announced on 27 June 2013 that they had signed Cornelius for a club-record fee. According to Danish reports, the fee would be 75 million Danish kroner ($8 million).
  • He completed his medical and signed a five-year contract with the club on 1 July. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to being a part of this exciting project at Cardiff City.”

  • He made his first competitive start for the club three days later, in a 2–0 win over League Two club Accrington Stanley; however, he re-aggravated the ankle injury he had picked up in pre-season following a heavy tackle and had to be carried off on a stretcher just before half-time.
  • Cornelius’ injury was more serious than first feared, and he would miss 10 Cardiff games over the next three months, as well as Denmark’s final qualification games for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
  • Cornelius again began training with the first-team squad during the final international break of 2013, so he could be evaluated by the medical staff. They determined that he was fit to return to action, so on 14 November, they arranged a friendly match behind closed doors with Championship club Yeovil Town.
  • As planned, he played 60 minutes in a 2–1 defeat and told the media that he was fit and ready to play again.
