Amrita Singh completed her primary education at Modem School in New Delhi. She made her Bollywood debut with the film Betaab in 1983, an immensely hit movie in which she was paired with Sunny Deol. This was immediately followed by a series of successful movies including Sunny, Mard (which was the highest hit of that year), Saaheb, Chameli Ki Shaadi, and Naam, Khudgarz in 1987, And Waaris 1988.
Amrita Singh made a strong pair in various movies, not only with Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, and Raj Babbar but also with Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor, 2 leading actors of the 1980s. Amrita came back to acting in 2002 with the movie Shaheed, in which she portrayed the mother of Bhagat Singh (portrayed by Bobby Deol). In 2005, Singh joined the TV industry with Ekta Kapoor’s family drama Kavyanjali, broadcasted on Star Plus. She was seen in a negative role in the show, which soon achieved enormous fame. In the same year, Singh earned acclaim for her appearance in yet another negative character for the movie Kalyug. She played the character of gangster Maya Dolas’ mother, Ratnaprabha Dolas, in the Sanjay Gupta film Shootout at Lokhandwala in 2007. Vivek Oberoi portrayed the character of Maya Dolas.
