In the year 2014, Akkineni did a cameo in Vikram Kumar’s hit family drama movie Manam, which starred 3 generations of actors from the Akkineni family. Akkineni’s brief cameo was an instant hit with the audience. he explained his shoot for the film alongside his grandfather, father, and half-brother, as “nervous and exciting”.
Akkineni went on to become one of the most successful Telugu films of 2014. Critics dubbed the film as a “classic” en route to it gaining numerous awards, including Best Film at the Filmfare Awards. He afterward went on to perform appearances in numerous commercials, notably for Karbonn, Mountain Dew, and Titan.

His debut film as a full-fledged star was V. V. Vinayak’s Akhil in 2015. In order to settle for the character, the actor joined in a stunt workshop with his personal trainer Kicha and attended workshops in Thailand for 2 months. Produced by actor Nithin, the film started production in December 2014 and starred him alongside fellow debutante actress Sayesha Saigal.
The film got poor reviews, and despite expectations, it was a failure at the box office. Following this, Akkineni went on a 2-year hiatus. The trailer of Mr. Majnu which released recently has got a good range of appreciation as Akhil looked confident and also an improvement in dialogue delivery can be noticed. Director Venky Atluri who is one film old directs the movie. Both the Actor and Director are working on their familiar zones of love stories. But there seems to be some part of discomfort with Nidhi Agarwal with her acting and looked bit odd. Hope it’s not such, in the case of watching it on the big screen.
