- Monica was born in Chabbewal, a small town in the district of Hoshiarpur, Punjab in 1975. Shortly afterward, her parents moved to Norway, where Monica spent 16 years of her life.
- Monica loved dancing, and during one of her visits to India at the age of 20, she decided to stay back to learn Kathak. It was in her dance class that she met veteran actor Manoj Kumar, who offered her a film opposite his son, Kunal. The film never took off, but her acting career did.
- Growing up, Monica was a huge fan of Sridevi. She told Filmfare in an interview that she would happily clean her brother’s room as a child because he promised her VCDs of Sridevi and Jeetendra films in return.
- In an interview with Showtime, Monica revealed that her first interaction with Abu Salem was over the phone, in 1998, when he asked her to perform at a show in Dubai. She agreed, and the phone calls kept coming. “I began getting friendly with him over the phone. At that time, he gave me a different name. I didn’t know he was Abu Salem. Actually, even if he had told me he was Abu Salem, I would’ve had no clue. I had only heard about Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel. I’d never heard of Abu Salem,” she said.
- Reportedly, Abu used his influence and pressurized producers to give Monica a role in films like Jaanam Samjha Karo and Jodi No 1.
- Monica and Abu were very serious about each other and wanted to start a new life together. “We went to America; we both had never been there earlier. We thought we’d start all over again. His idea was to start organizing shows over there legitimately. That was his dream. Believe me, he was working really hard at it. He tried his best. But his past was something he couldn’t erase and it always caught up with him,” she told Showtime.
- Monica revealed in an interview with Showtime that her parents found out about her relationship with Abu only once they got arrested. “They live in Norway; they are totally disconnected from this part of the world. It was a major shock for them. They knew I was seeing some guy but I’d lied to them. I had told them that my boyfriend was from America; his name was Sanjay and that he was a show organizer. They kept asking to meet him but I would keep pushing that off,” she said.
- When Monica denied that she was married to Abu, insisting that it was only a long live-in relationship, he sent her a legal notice. In the notice, he said that though he would be heartbroken, he would willingly divorce her if that is what she wanted.
- Monica was a contestant on the second season of Bigg Boss and stayed in the house for three weeks before getting evicted.
- When Abu reportedly married a Mumbra-based woman, Monica had nothing but good wishes for him. “I’m happy for him and I wish him all the best in life. I still respect our relationship, but he’s moved on and so have I,” she said.
